Fearne Cotton has revealed that the strains of single parenting has left her crying in her car at times as she moves on from her marriage to Jesse Wood
Fearne Cotton has candidly confessed to how life as a single mother has affected her. The TV presenter, 43, revealed she has been left in tears in her car at times following her split from Jesse Wood.
The couple tied the knot in 2014 before calling it quits in December last year, sharing a heartfelt statement on Twitter /X. During their time together, they welcomed two children – Rex and Honey – and said their priority will always remain on the pair, as well as Jesse’s two older kids, Arthur and Lola.
Now, in an honest interview, Fearne has admitted to feeling the pressure of trying to raise he kids while juggling her media career.
Speaking to the Jesse Wood magazine’s new podcast, Just As Well, she revealed she felt as though she was “dropping a lot of balls” and struggling to do anything “particularly well”.
She added: “I had nothing the kids liked for breakfast on Monday, nothing. I had cereal, but no milk. I had butter, but no bread. I tried to make pancakes, I had no maple syrup. It is like an absolute s**t show.
“So I’m just dropping lots of balls constantly and never feeling like I’m doing anything particularly well. But enjoying most of it. I would say enjoying most of it.”
And Fearne admitted she would “probably have a slight tantrum” when things began to spiral. “Sometimes I have a cry in my car, call one of my best mates and go “Are you having a s**t show too? Yeah. Okay, phew….it’s not just me.”
Fearne later revealed how running her own podcast had taken a toll on her mental health. She explained how working had sparked a lot of her mental health issues, including anxiety struggles and OCD.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t discriminate,” she went on. “You know what is going on in your brain is entirely separate to what other people assume your lifestyle is. So it really important to dispel that myth.”
She insisted when she feels herself getting low, she has to be “nice” to herself in order to try to let the feeling go. Because of her mental health struggles, Fearne made the decision to step back from her media lifestyle in 2015.
The presenter slammed trolls’ behaviour for being a major player in her decision. “It’s the absolute pits,” she said od social media. “And I think you do have to learn to just see it as a thought in someone’s head that has now gone and they decided to write it down for whatever reason and it’s nothing more than that.
“But in the moment, it can feel, especially if you’re not in a good head space, which back when I was doing Radio 1 I wasn’t, but I was still receiving a lot of that and it took me under…I was very close to questioning everything in my life at that point.”
Now, as well as her podcast and family life, Fearne’s focus is on her wellness business. As well as he podcast, Fearne has produced a number of self-help books.
Since her marriage breakdown, Fearne has been romantically linked with TV director Elliot Hegarty. Jesse, meanwhile, has Fearne Cotton
