Kelly Dighton, 41, was on drugs when she crashed into the vehicle of an off-duty police officer – this year, her fiancé won a £11.5m gambling jackpot
The fiancée of a man who won a massive £11.5m gambling jackpot was high on drugs with her children in the car when she crashed into the vehicle of an off-duty police officer.
Kelly Dighton, 41, “didn’t look” when she pulled out of a roundabout in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in February. Dighton’s Nissan Qashqai then hit the car of a female off-duty officer, Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court heard.
The victim called her colleagues to attend the scene following the collision, which left her with an “immediate headache” according to Sarah Fiddy, prosecuting. Dighton told the victim she was “in a hurry” and apologised. An on-duty officer arrived and conducted a drug swipe on Dighton, which tested positive for cocaine.
Dighton, whom three months prior to the crash had been slapped with an interim driving ban for separate drug driving offences, was arrested at the scene.
She burst into tears when her sentence was read. She was handed a prison sentence of 17 weeks, suspended for 18 months. She was also disqualified from driving for three years.
She must pay £1,710 in compensation to the victim, and was also ordered to pay a £1,982 total financial penalty.
Dave Foulkes, mitigating, said his client was picking her pregnant daughter up to take her to hospital with stomach pains at the time of the incident. Mr Foulkes also said Dighton was having “problems” with drugs, but had been sober since the incident.
She has shared her recovery journey in videos on TikTok, where she also discussed the crash. Ms Fiddy said that talking about the crash on social media was “insulting”.
Four months before the crash, Dighton’s partner Arron Freeman won an incredible £11.5 million on just a £1.50 stake he put on the Mega Moolah online slot game, hosted by Betfred.
The pair got engaged around two months ago and Mr Freeman was seen supporting his partner in court this week, according to the Lowestoft Journal.
Mr Freeman, a scaffolder, popped the question to his girlfriend during a luxury trip to Turkey.
She said on Facebook: “Finally I am going to get my fairytale with my absolute world Arron Paul Freeman, we are getting married. Never knew he could be so romantic, how he got down on one knee was the most amazing thing anyone’s ever done for me. Thank you Arron, you are the most amazing man in the world. I love you endlessly.”
Since the huge win, Mr Freeman has apparently bought a BMW M8, which costs £150,000 new.
Dighton has shown off a mammoth diamond ring in her TikTok videos, said to be from Tiffany & Co. In her videos she wears a £315 Gucci brooch and a diamond-encrusted Rolex, while talking about having face fillers, a Brazilian butt lift and liposuction in Turkey.
