The “one night only” event, dubbed FireAid, will take place at the Intuit Dome and the adjacent Kia Forum in Los Angeles on January 30, as well as being broadcast and streamed live

British music legends Sir Rod Stewart and Sting are set to perform at a charity concert for the wildfire relief efforts in California, alongside American stars Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Pink and Katy Perry. The one-off event, named FireAid, is scheduled for January 30 at the Intuit Dome and the neighbouring Kia Forum in Los Angeles, with live broadcasts and streaming.

The star-studded line-up also includes Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Grammy winner Joni Mitchell, as well as Gwen Stefani, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lil Baby, Stephen Stills and Tate McRae. Double Oscar-winning musician Eilish will share the stage with her brother Finneas O’Connell, while the gig will mark the first live performance of Dave Matthews and John Mayer together.

Sir Rod, who moved back to the UK permanently after three decades in LA in 2023, will also take the stage following his 80th birthday celebrations earlier this month. The concert aims to “raise money for rebuilding communities devastated by wildfires and supporting efforts to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California”, according to the organisers.

The event will be broadcast and streamed live on various platforms, including Apple Music and the Apple TV app, Netflix, Paramount+ and Prime Video. Tickets for both concerts will be available from Wednesday on Ticketmaster, with more artists to be announced later, added the organisers.

Taylor Swift has voiced her distress at the tragic California wildfires, terming them “heartbreaking to see”. The 35 year old vocal sensation took to her Instagram story, sharing a list of charities she’s backing—among them the California Community Foundation Fund, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. “The fires in California have devastated so many families and it has been heartbreaking to see these stories unfold,” Swift shared with her followers, outlining the devastation and the resilience being shown.

“So much suffering, loss and destruction, as many people embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives. There are also many amazing organisations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”

This isn’t Swift’s first act of philanthropy; she previously stepped in last October with a five million dollar (£3.8 million) contribution towards hurricane recovery initiatives in Florida. In a further demonstration of her charitable spirit, the ‘Eras Tour’ icon had earlier extended a “generous donation” to a network of 1,400 food banks across the UK.

Among other luminaries contributing to the LA relief efforts are acclaimed actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with actress Eva Longoria—all made hefty one million dollar donations (£819,000).

US megastar Beyonce confirmed that her BeyGood foundation has donated a generous 2.5 million dollars (£2.05 million) to relief efforts, following the postponement of an announcement which fans are speculating could be about a tour or new album. Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation also pitched in, offering a hefty $500,000 (£410,000) donation to aid efforts as “the disaster upends families and dismantles livelihoods”, the rock band shared on Instagram.

Meanwhile, US socialite Paris Hilton managed to raise $800,000 (£656,000) in just 72 hours for displaced families through her charity 11:11 Media Impact, and pledged an additional $150,000 (£123,000) to GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund. She later revealed that her partner, the Hilton hotel chain, was generously offering 20,000 rooms free of charge to families displaced by the fires.

The US celebrity also took in a three year old chihuahua “whose family unfortunately had to surrender her after their home was destroyed in the wildfires”, she posted on Instagram. This followed the heart-wrenching moment when the reality star watched her Malibu home “burn to the ground on live TV”.

Other celebrities who lost their homes to the devastating fires include Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg.
