A man was left reeling after being on a ’29-hour’ flight all the way from New Zealand to Berlin – where he was sat near an upset child who made the entire journey a nightmare

A nightmarish “29-hour” flight left travellers in shock as an inconsolable child wreaked pandemonium throughout the duration of the trip.

Travelling by plane can churn the stomach at the best of times, and the squeezed legroom or separation from your travel companions only adds to the agony. While everyone knows little ones can get fractious, coping with a bellowing child nearby can test even the most patient of passengers.

Now, spurred on by his own dire experience, one traveller is advocating for adult-only flights – and he’s not alone in his thinking. Henry Beasley, from the Kiwi music act Balu Brigada, had the misfortune of enduring what he referred to as a “29-hour” trek to Berlin straight from the heartlands of New Zealand.

While the artist withheld details about his exact point of departure, normally such a journey to Berlin could clock in around 31 hours, typically including two stopovers.

To his dismay, his aural space was invaded by the relentless screaming of a distressed young flyer for the entirety of his trip.

Turning to TikTok in a bid to find some humour in his predicament, he shared scenes from his gruelling flight. In the video, one can spot him sardonically ‘rating’ the kid’s screams according to their volume and duration.

Dropping the video on the @balubrigada TikTok account, it features clips of Beasley wincing through the non-stop fits of crying, quipping alongside each cry with a tongue-in-cheek score and noting cheekily, “the kid’s got some lungs”.

During a flight, Henry’s video captures each wail of a child, with captions popping up to commend the “great projection” and humorously suggest that the “kettle’s boiled!”

Despite having chunky headphones at his disposal, Henry opts to keep them draped around his neck for most of the journey, concluding his series of critiques with: “Stellar performance, incredible stamina. 10/10”.

The clip has sparked quite the debate online, with many siding with the exasperated traveller. However, some viewers expressed sympathy for the parents being ridiculed in the footage.

One viewer commented: “Honestly there should be kid free flights and kid flights”, racking up a staggering 206,000 likes on TikTok. Another vented: “The rage I get just by watching this” while someone else quipped, “I rate this flight with a 0/10”.

Another chimed in with empathy, saying, “That poor mother,” while a different TikTok user admitted: “I know some people don’t have the option, but I never took my babies or toddlers on flights. Ever. It’s painful for everyone”.

Speaking to the Mirror, etiquette guru John-Paul Stuthridge said: “Feeling a little bit grumpy or miserable over the seat we have is normal and unfortunately one of those things in life through which to just grit our teeth.”
