Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Chad Michael Murray are all present and correct in the first look at the Freaky Friday sequel as the first trailer is released
Fans of Freaky Friday are flipping out following the release of the trailer for the long awaited trailer that reunites Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The 2003 original film saw the lead stars play mother and daughter Anna and Tess Coleman who swap bodies and learn some valuable life lessons before they figure out how to switch themselves back. The original film was a smash hit – pulling in over $106 million (over £81 million) at the box office and cementing both Lindsay, 38, and Jamie Lee, 66, as comedy stars.
A sequel to the movie is set for release later this year, and Disney released the first trailer for the film on Friday – declaring: “This summer is about to get F̶r̶e̶a̶k̶y̶ FREAKIER.” Footage showed both Lindsay and Jamie Lee back in character, receiving a palm reading from a psychic.
The psychic tells the pair that they have swapped lives before, but the mother and daughter duo act unsurprised by the news – but then they become concerned when the psychic warns that the lessons they learned before, may be needed again. Footage then cuts to Tess and Anna screaming as they realise they are no longer in their own bodies – and that Anna’s daughters have also swapped with them.
Chad Michael Murray, who played Jake in the original, has also returned for the sequel – with fans delighted to see the original case members back for more. One fan wrote: “Ahhh CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY AT THE END!!!!!!! IT’S GETTING HAWT IN HERE!!” And another typed: “Oh I cannot wait to see all the looks in this, the OG’s aesthetic is just unmatched. I wanted to be in Pink Slip so much growing up I even have a band tee of theirs I still wear all the time … So excited for this!!”
Pointing out the unexpected plot twist shown in the title, one fan wrote: “The multiple body switches??? This is gonna be a grand ol time.” And another typed: “IM SO EXCITED.”
An official synopsis for the new film states: “A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
The film includes Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao as well as Lindsay, Jamie Lee and Chad. Lindsay told fans at a Disney event last August: “It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys.”
She added: “Seriously, the only reason we are back here doing this because of your love. That is why.” While Jamie added: “It feels like picking up where we left off, which is really beautiful.” Freakier Friday is due for release on Friday 8 August.
