This a full-proof six-step method to get your lawn looking perfectly lush and ready for you to enjoy during the summer months – that people begged a gardener to share
Now is the perfect time to get your lawn sorted out and this six-step routine will have it looking seriously luscious.
At the centerpiece of many people’s gardens is the lawn but making the most out of it for the summer months can sometimes be a little bit trickier than you might imagine.
Lawns need a good bit of TLC throughout the year to keep them in the best possible condition. However, if you’re a bit of a gardening novice and aren’t entirely sure where to begin, then this six-step method is perfect for you and will see you through from start to finish of lawn care.
The routine comes from a keen gardener who explained the entirety of his process after people saw how luscious his lawn was and absolutely begged him to share it.
This six-step method will take your lawn from yellowing and thin to growing gorgeous bright green turf, but it’s not for the fainthearted. Posted by Canadian broadcaster and author Roz Weston on his TikTok account, he showed how he managed to transform his thinner lawn over the course of five weeks, using six steps – but get prepared to get your hands a little dirty.
First things first, you need to mow your lawn and cut it really short down to the ground but the gardening fan explains not to “worry, your grass is going to be fine, it loves this”. Then you need to aerate your lawn – essentially punching regular holes in it to improve drainage and its root systems. Roz does this using a dedicated machine, an aerator, but if you don’t want to rent or buy one – and have a lawn on the smaller side – you can simply use a garden fork, but make sure you remove any soil that’s left on top of the turf before moving onto step three.
Then you need to cover the whole lawn in the sand before carefully working it into the grass and the holes you’ve punched with a rake, “You want the grass to stand up through the sand, so keep working it in,” he explains, showing that by the end of this process, his grass is visible again through the sand.
Once this stage is complete, your lawn will be begging for a good drink, so if you have sprinklers this is the time to get them to work. Afterwards, Roz explains, you need to pour grass seed all over your lawn to encourage new growth, before adding a layer of peat moss which will help your turf retain a lot of moisture.
Roz then gives his lawn another really good watering, before putting down a layer of fertiliser, and then you just need to finally sit back, relax and let the lawn renovation work its magic, “It’s a lot of work, but it’s so worth it,” the keen gardener explained in his video.
“As a lawn care technician, I approve,” commented one fan under the video, with another saying “Well done man, it’s beautiful!” about the final result.
