The woman posted a gardening hack on Reddit, explaining how to transform a cheap paddling pool into a stunning flower bed by filling the pool with soil and nutrients and watching the seedlings grow

A gardening hack in which a cheap paddling pool is transformed into a stunning flower bed is making waves online.

You simply need to inflate the sandbox, fill it with soil and plant your favourite flowers. You can also add your own personal touch without spending a fortune. Once the kiddie pool is filled with soil and nutrients, you can watch your seedlings flourish, the woman said on Reddit. On the cheap gardening hack thread, the woman explained: “Kiddie pools. Once fall sets in you can get them for free on just about every curb. They’re very versatile.”

She praised the versatility, saying: “The sky is the limit. They work well as large-scale container gardens for either flowers or herbs. They also make great bird baths with some rocks and a solar fountain. They make good ponds for water plants.” Budget-conscious gardeners get a creative way to repurpose their kids’ old toys and the opportunity to have a lush flower bed.

The woman said: “Good as a squirrel and fat dove decoy for bird watching too. You just toss some seeds and corn in and put it on the other side of the feeders for the tiny birds. You can also use them flipped over on stakes for shade. They also work well as a muddy boot and tool holder. You can even cut them up to make garden edging and fence decorations. It’s really endless.”

For gardeners struggling with cats repurposing their flower beds as a litter box, there is another solution. In another forum, gardeners offered a humane deterrent which “won’t harm” the cats at all. Instead, it just makes them want to leave. One man told Gardening Hints and Tips Facebook group tha the was fed up with his neighbour’s cats using his garden as their toilet. Julie Crawey replied: “I seem to have some new resident cats in my garden this year. Remove the cat poo and put orange peels around. They seem to hate it.” Mary Vale echoed: “Citrus peel scattered around worked for me. They smell it and scurry away.”
