Taylor Swift’s newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, is finally out, and one song in particular has become a trending topic across all social media platforms – and the reason is so smart.

This one Taylor Swift song might be her smartest career move yet

Taylor Swift has finally released her awaited 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, and it has been the height of conversation on every social media platform.

One thing about Taylor Swift is that she’s always a trending topic. Whether it’s about her relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce or rumours of new music or a new tour. Somehow, the megastar is always on our feeds.

To keep up with the news cycle that shrouds her name, and to ensure search about her is squeaky clean, the country-pop star appears to have outsmarted Google – and, in turn, her haters.

How? For years, the internet has been trying to dig into Taylor’s private life, whereas it’s public feuds, backlashes or romances. She has now flipped the coin and made it about her songs.

Her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, has a total of 12 tracks and one collaboration, which is none other than Sabrina Carpenter herself. The tracklist includes a song called ‘Cancelled!’

Now, whenever fans – and non-fans alike – type in ‘Taylor Swift cancelled’, they’ll only see the news related to the song, pushing negative news to the bottom of the search bar. Genius.

A fan wrote on X: “This is now what will appear when you search ‘Taylor Swift cancelled’ instead of some bulls*** from 2016. She’s so smart.” A second one added: “Taylor is so smart by naming her upcoming song title CANCELLED. Because when people google ‘taylor swift cancelled’, the very first thing coming up is her song lyrics.”

It’s not the first time that the singer has played a smart move and flipped the whole narrative with the title of her song. In 2023, Taylor released ‘Slut!’ (with an exclamation mark, as well) as part of her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Instead of clickbait and headlines, the top results were streaming links, lyrics and the breakdowns of the song’s meaning.

During her appearance on the New Heights podcast in August 2025, the singer admitted to not being the biggest social media person. Nonetheless, she loves to keep her fans entertained by dropping little Easter eggs during interviews and performances about her next move. In other words, she’s always two steps ahead of everyone else.

Although it’s unclear whether the title of the song was intentional to cleanse her search feed, one thing that’s surely clear is that ‘Cancelled!’ might be one of the best titles of her career – and if anyone can ‘cancel’ Taylor, it’s herself.
