Melissa Campos was brutally stabbed by a male student, who used a pair of scissors to carry out the savage attack, inside a classroom at a private school in Brazil
A 14-year-old girl went into a classroom at a private school but she tragically did not leave the room alive. Melissa Campos was brutally stabbed to death by a schoolboy wielding a pair of scissors in her class, in Uberaba, a city in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, reportedly stabbed Melissa multiple times inside the classroom at Colegio Livre Aprender, on May 8. A teacher rushed to provide first aid to the girl in a desperate attempt to save her life before paramedics came to the shocking site. Rescue team attempted to resuscitate the victim, but were unsuccessful, and Melissa was declared dead at the scene.
The 14-year-old student believed to have attacked Melissa fled the school after the fatal stabbing but police said they tracked the suspect down hours later and he was taken into custody.
Cops have launched an investigation and said the motive behind the attack is unclear at the moment. Melissa’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.
In a statement, Colegio Livre Aprender said that both the Civil and Military Police remained at the school and added that classes and all activities have been suspended indefinitely. The school said psychological support will be offered to the community.
The City of Uberaba also issued a statement expressing sorrow over the incident and declared three days of official mourning.
Mayor Elisa Araujo said that “Uberaba is experiencing a day of immense sadness” and reaffirmed the city’s “commitment to strengthening emotional support, school harmony, and a culture of peace.”
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This has not been the first time a school student has been killed inside a school in Brazil. Geane da Silva de Brito, 19, was savagely killed by a 14-year-old attacker who stabbed her with a machete and shot her.

She suffered horrific injuries after the young assailant – who was reportedly a black hooded top and wearing sunglasses – approached her and shot her twice, before pulling out a machete and stabbing her.

Officials said the girl, who has since been named as Lyedja Santos, wanted to find “peace” with herself when she shot an 18-year-old classmate. Rio Grande do Norte Military Police officers said they recovered a .38 calibre revolver Santos had in her possession, three knives, and several books about serial killers.
