If you’re already dreaming of summer and looking to escape the UK for a bit of sun early in the season, then Paxos in Greece could be the perfect destination for you

While spring sunshine may not have fully arrived in the UK, the promise of warmer weather is certainly in the air.

However, it will be a while before we can enjoy the summer sun on our shores. If you’re itching for some early summer warmth and are looking for an affordable getaway, it could be the perfect holiday destination for you.

Paxos is a Greek island is just an hour to two-and-a-half-hour ferry ride from Corfu. And with Corfu only three hours and 15 minutes away from the UK, it’s not a taxing journey.

So, why choose Paxos? There are two main reasons. Firstly, even in May, the average temperature on the island is a pleasant 23C.

Ideal for achieving that sun-kissed glow without the oppressive heat that forces you indoors. In addition to the perfect climate, Paxos is one of the least commercialised Greek islands in the Ionian Sea.

As April gives way to May, tourists begin to flock to the Greek islands. But unlike its counterparts Corfu, Mykonos, Rhodes and Santorini, Paxos won’t feel overcrowded.

In fact, you’ll be able to stroll through the rustic streets of Paxos relatively unbothered by throngs of tourists. Above all, Paxos is renowned for its stunning beaches.

The top three are Erimitis Bay, Tripitos Arch, and Kipiadi. Even though the sun will be shining brightly in May, Paxos’ quieter nature means you shouldn’t struggle to find a spot to lay your towel.

A Tripadvisor user was effusive about Erimitis Bay Beach, sharing their experience: “Oh my heavens, this beach is just stunning. The massive white cliffs, the white pebbles beach (lots of small pebbles so much more comfortable than many other Paxos’ beaches), the insane clear waters, and the big rocks together make one of the most stunning beaches I have ever seen. Just wow!

“Yes the walk down takes a moment but only if you’re truly well out of shape this could potential risky pose a problem. Otherwise it’s a beautiful walk with gorgeous views.”

Similarly, another holidaymaker recounted their adventure to Tripitos Arch Beach, saying: “A short 10-15 mins walk from Ozias along narrow rocky paths and you will be rewarded with an amazing scenic view of the turquoise sea and Tripitos.

“Either on the rock platform above or on the top of the actual arch this is the perfect place either at sunrise or for sunset drinks. I highly recommend a trip here.”
