Gina Stewart, 54, who is known as the ‘world’s hottest gran’, has opened up about the benefits of sleeping naked – and she has noticed some big changes

The “world’s hottest gran” attributes her youthful appearance and overall wellbeing to a good night’s sleep, which she claims is thanks to ditching her bedtime attire.

Gina Stewart, a grandmother-of-three and former Playboy model, revealed that she used to suffer from frequent sleepless nights, but everything changed when she started sleeping naked. She explained that restrictive clothing made her hot and bothered, leading to restless nights, but since making the switch, she’s never looked back.

Gina’s idol, Marilyn Monroe, also swore by sleeping naked for a good night’s rest, saying: “I have never been able to wear pyjamas or creepy nightgowns; they disturb my sleep.”

As today marks World Sleep Day, Gina shares her experience, along with expert insights, on the benefits of sleeping in the buff.

Sleep quality

Gina noticed a significant improvement in her sleep quality after ditching her PJs. She found that the cooler temperature helped regulate her natural sleep cycle, leading to deeper and more restorative sleep.

She said: “By shedding your clothes, you allow your body to maintain a comfortable temperature, leading to deeper, more restorative sleep.”

Dr Kecia Gaither, a physician, seems to agree with Gina’s theory and she explained: “Sleeping without clothes can help regulate body temperature, potentially improving sleep quality since the body can cool down more effectively.”

Enhanced skin

Gina, hailing from Australia’s sunny Gold Coast, has also credited her habit of sleeping in the nude with maintaining her glowing skin. She shared that it has significantly reduced skin irritations and rashes she used to experience.

Highlighting the pitfalls of nightwear, she added: “Hence the term is to get your beauty sleep, sleeping without clothing can make you prettier!”

Corroborating Gina’s skincare benefits, Dr Gaither pointed out: “Skin can benefit from better air circulation, reducing the risk of skin irritation and allowing for better moisture retention.”

Stress

Furthermore, Gina attributes her daily sense of rejuvenation and mental clarity to lower stress levels achieved by a sound slumber in her birthday suit.

Doctor Gaither echoed this sentiment, saying: “Feeling free and unrestricted can reduce stress levels, leading to a more relaxed state conducive to better health and there’s no need to deal with laundry as frequently, which can save time and energy.”

Body positivity

Gina, who shot to fame following a Maxim modelling competition in 2019, said that foregoing pajamas has led to a greater sense of body positivity, helping her to embrace and appreciate her figure more.

She said: “In a society often filled with unrealistic beauty standards, taking time to appreciate one’s body, free from clothing constraints, can promote self-acceptance and confidence.”

Meanwhile, a survey conducted earlier this year involving 2,000 participants—half of whom slept in the nude—uncovered that nudist slumberers often have higher confidence levels. This research, sponsored by Avocado Green Mattress, revealed a compelling link between sleep habits and self-assurance.

The company’s Senior Director, John Davies, commented: “Deep sleep is fundamental to our wellness. Whether you prefer to sleep au natural, or not, understanding what works best for you is an essential fulcrum for our health.”

Intimacy

Gina believes that duos who ditch their pyjamas at bedtime experience intensified intimacy and bonding, crediting the release of oxytocin (also known as the love hormone), which skin-on-skin contact can stimulate. However, she suggests the benefits extend even further, claiming that it can foster improved trust and communication, leading to robustier and more fulfilling connections.

Echoing Gina’s thoughts, Dr Alex Dimitriu, a professional in the realm of sleep science, shared his insights with the New York Post on the subject. He articulated: “Sleeping naked with your partner may be an effective way to get closer, physically and emotionally.”

Conclusion

For World Sleep Day, Gina concluded by encouraging readers to give sleeping in the nude a go if they’re having trouble catching their Z’s. Suggesting it might lead to uncovering a “healthier and happier” self, she added: “While it may take some time to get used to the idea of sleeping naked, the potential benefits are undeniable.

“From improved sleep quality to enhanced intimacy and a positive body image, the upsides of shedding your pyjamas may outweigh the initial hesitation. With a bit of courage and openness, many may find that the practice of sleeping naked is a refreshing and liberating way to enhance their overall wellbeing.”
