Darya Nikolaenko returned to the registry office with husband Dmitry Nikolaenko to submit a request for a divorce just one month after they tied the knot, it is said
Man suspected of stabbing his wife to death
A groom has been accused of stabbing his wife to death in the registry office where they wed.
Darya Nikolaenko, 21, returned to the building with 25-year-old husband Dmitry Nikolaenko one month after they tied the knot because, it is claimed, she wanted to file for divorce. As they filed for a legal split in Russia, he allegedly took out a knife and repeatedly stabbed her. Reports claim she died before an ambulance could arrive – in front of her 11-month-old child by another man.
It is believed the groom was detained on the spot by security guards at the register office in Sayansk, Siberia, and later remanded in custody. He was subsequently charged with murdering his wife, said reports. Nikolaenko faces up to 15 years in high security jail if convicted. The reason they had sought a divorce so soon after the wedding is not revealed.
A forensic team was seen on video working at the crime scene. In an interrogation, Nikolaenko was seen to plead guilty to killing his wife. The suspect was asked: “Do you realise what you’re suspected of?” The exchange went on: “Yes.” He’s asked: “For what?” Nikolaenko replies: “Murder” and he’s asked: “Murder of who?” He states: “My wife.”
He said he “felt remorse” for killing his bride, according to reports. Nikolaenko was seen being handcuffed. He was asked: “Do you plead guilty?” He replied in the affirmative even though there has, as yet, been no trial.
Footage shared by the Mirror shows crime scene investigators at the registry office. It then shows Nikolaenko interrogated by police officers and placed into handcuffs.
