Harry Kane says he is getting better with age – and believes England can win the World Cup next summer. Kane, 32, is still breaking goal records and believes his time with Bayern Munich has only improved him and he says Thomas Tuchel is building a squad to deliver the biggest prize.

England captain Kane, who won the Bundesliga title last season after moving two Bayern two years ago, said: “Am I a better player? I’d say yes. Just the feeling I have on the pitch.

“I feel like the team we have this season is the strongest I’ve ever had. That helps, when you’re surrounded by that sort of team. Just the way I feel on the pitch, the way I’m moving. The way I’m seeing the game is at the highest level I’ve ever had.

“In terms of, would I have been doing this at Bayern five years ago? Maybe I would have been scoring these types of goals. It’s impossible to say.”

Kane clearly has a bond with Tuchel who managed him at Bayern and tried to sign him for Chelsea and there is a mutual respect there.

England boss Tuchel did pull off a surprise in this camp by axing Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden to stick with the squad – and feel good factor – that followed last month’s 5-0 win in Serbia. That has definitely changed the mood in the nation of where England are under Tuchel and their chances ahead of next summer.

Kane added: “I think it was important. We still did really well in the games before, but I don’t think there was a ‘statement win’ where everyone, maybe from the outside, was excited. I think what we’ve been trying to build inside has been there.

“But I think performances like that and results like that definitely help the environment and the confidence. Especially among some of the newer players or less experienced players in the team. Maybe it feels like they’ve got more of a chance to really make an impact on this team, and get into the World Cup squad next summer.”
