Harry Kane has been in some of the best goalscoring form of his life this season and the England captain’s club, Bayern Munich, have been reaping the benefits in a big way
England captain Harry Kane continued his unbelievable start to the season as Bayern Munich marched into the next round of the DFB-Pokal, Germany’s domestic cup. In doing so, he helped Vincent Kompany’s side clinch a 14th straight victory at the start of a season, breaking a 32-year record across Europe’s top five leagues.
Kane scored twice in a 4-1 win away at Koln, making it two successive wins in the cup. Bayern have also won eight out of eight in the league and three out of three in the Champions League, also beating Stuttgart in the DFB-Supercup – Germany’s equivalent of the Community Shield.
The previous record for teams in those top five leagues was held by AC Milan. They won their first seven Serie A matches in the 1992/93 season as well as their first three Coppa Italia fixtures – when the competition’s earlier rounds took place over two legs – and their first three outings in the inaugural Champions League.
A cup draw away to Cagliari ended that run for Milan, but didn’t stop them winning their third round clash on aggregate. They didn’t lose a game that season until March, when a cup exit at the hands of Roma was followed by a league defeat at home to Parma.
Bayern now have a chance to extend their own record and make it harder for any other team to overcome it in the future. They host Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday and follow that with a return to Champions League action away to holders Paris Saint-Germain.

“The first 30 minutes weren’t easy,” Kane said after the Koln victory. “We had chances to take the lead. They scored the first goal, but we reacted very well.
“It was very important for us to gain control before half-time. In the second half, we were more able to play our style of football. Once they started to get tired, we had more space and we used it. We’re enjoying a good spell and have to keep this feeling and winning mentality going.”
Kane has an incredible record of 22 goals this season in just 14 appearances. He has 12 from eight Bundesliga outings, four in two cup ties and five in three in Europe, as well as one in that DFB-Supercup triumph.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star was asked about his Ballon d’Or prospects during the October international break, since when he has kept finding the target.
“Obviously I would love to win the Ballon d’Or. But essentially it is a team trophy that the best individual from that team wins,” he said. “So unless you win the biggest competitions it is going to be a Champions League winner or a World Cup winner this time around. I would love to win it for sure, it would be an accumulation of doing something great individually and as a team. It would be almost the perfect season.”
Meanwhile, Kane’s wife is happy in Germany and, amid questions over a potential Premier League return next summer for her husband, is keen for him to continue in Bavaria. Kate is enjoying their current lifestyle, particularly the privacy they and their four children receive in Munich.
Kane has expressed his personal happiness with his situation, admitting: “The way people welcomed us was extraordinary. It touched us deeply as a family, not just me, but all of us.
“The children go to school and love it. My wife feels very comfortable too. We truly enjoy every second.”
Thus, any potential suitors wanting Kane back in England after the World Cup, may well have to look elsewhere.
