Harry Kane was preparing to celebrate Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title win when RB Leipzig scored in the 94th minute to make it 3-3, leaving the England captain gutted

Harry Kane’s agonising wait to lift the first trophy of his career goes on. A gutted Kane watched from the touchline as Bayern Munich conceded a 94th-minute equaliser against RB Leipzig when they were seconds away from winning the Bundesliga title.

The England captain was unable to face Leipzig on Saturday after picking up a controversial one-game ban. Kane, 31, looked miserable in his seat when Bayern went 2-0 down in the first half but was elated when Leroy Sane completed a second-half comeback.

The ex-Tottenham striker made his way down to the Bayern dugout in stoppage time but was stood motionless when Leipzig substitute Yussuf Poulsen dinked a shot over Jonas Urbig, making it 3-3. Bayern’s travelling supporters were left red-faced after going early with their celebrations, as they now have to wait at least a day to win back the league title.

Reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, who ended Bayern’s 11-year stronghold on German football last season, travel to Freiburg on Sunday and must win to keep their slender title hopes alive. Even with a victory, Leverkusen would need Bayern to lose their final two games and there to be an unprecedented 30-goal swing to even stand a chance.

Former Premier League stars Eric Dier and Michael Olise scored within 45 seconds of one another, the shortest time between two goals in Bundesliga history, to start Bayern’s comeback. Then Sane, another player who once plied his trade in England, came up with what looked to be the winner in the 83rd minute and sent the away end into pandemonium.

Kane quickly made his way down to the touchline, where Vincent Kompany, his players and coaching staff were gathered waiting for the final whistle. But when Poulsen got on the end of a through ball from Xavi Simons, the Leipzig legend slotted home for 3-3, converting his side’s only real chance of the second half.

It’ll only be a matter of time before Kane can finally enjoy the sweet taste of silverware, having now served his one-game ban for accumulating yellow cards this season. The 31-year-old has lost six finals in his career and hasn’t yet won a league title.

Kane fumed after picking up his suspension: “First of all, I think it’s an insane decision. It’s never a yellow card. Unfortunately, sometimes people come to the Allianz Arena and try to make a name for themselves.

“That’s why I’m really disappointed that I got the yellow card, because of course I knew I already had four. And secondly, I think the rule is crazy anyway.

“Five yellow cards in 34 games means a suspension. Crazy, crazy decision. It’s kind of my story that I’ll miss the Leipzig game. But no worries, I’ll celebrate more than anyone else.”
