Comprising 10 islands in the Atlantic, it’s the ideal location for Brits seeking some winter sun – with temperatures still hovering around 28C even in October.

With its expansive sandy beaches, dramatic coastlines and vibrant nightlife, there’s a wealth of attractions to suit all ages, reports the Express.

One of the most sought-after islands in the region is Sal, which can be reached directly from the UK via TUI. It’s been dubbed a ‘beach lover’s paradise’ by the Cape Verde Experience, making it the perfect choice for a tranquil getaway.

It offers golden sandy beaches encircled by crystal-clear waters, alongside a rich culture and superb food and drink – ensuring there’s something to cater to every taste.

Espargos, the capital of Sal, is situated in the heart of the island. However, the main resort area is located in Santa Maria in the south, which features a range of shops, eateries and bars, as well as numerous hotels nestled along the sandy coastline.

A must-visit attraction is the mirage at Terra Boa, a phenomenon that creates the illusion of an ocean in the middle of the desert.

Boa Vista is another hotspot, renowned for its golden sands and laid-back vibe.

The island boasts some of the most stunning beaches in the archipelago, with 55km of sand. Whether you want to unwind by the water or engage in watersports, it’s an ideal location.

Accommodation in Boa Vista offers a variety of experiences, from relaxing poolside days to activity-filled adventures.

Away from the coast, explore the desert-like landscapes and remnants of deserted villages. The main town, Sal Rei, located in the north-west, is gradually becoming a hub for dining and nightlife, and features fascinating architectural landmarks.

Cape Verde’s cuisine includes local Creole and Portuguese dishes, with seafood, meats and vegetarian options.

Don’t miss out on trying Cachupa Rica, the national dish of Cape Verde. This stew, made with fish, meat and vegetables, is a culinary highlight.

Fresh fish is a staple of the local cuisine, with bafas – a dish featuring fish cooked with tomato, onion and peppers in breadcrumbs – being a crowd favourite, often served as a snack or starter.

And no trip would be complete without savouring a Caipirinha or two, a mouth-watering cocktail inspired by Brazil, crafted with local spirits and sugar cane.
