A paediatric ICU nurse has taken to social media to share her last-minute Christmas gift idea – and it’s perfect for anyone who has forgotten to pick up a present or two

With Christmas Eve upon us, it’s crunch time for last-minute gift hunters. But fear not, as a clever woman has shared a brilliant and budget-friendly present idea that won’t have you dashing through the aisles in panic.

Even if you’ve left it down to the wire, most shops are staying open late today, giving you ample opportunity to snag those final festive goodies.

An ICU paediatric nurse, known on TikTok as @akhtuallycba, has come up with an easy and cheap solution for those who’ve left their Christmas shopping to the eleventh hour. She said: “It’s that time of year where everybody is giving gifts. And as a nurse who works in the children’s department at the hospital, I think it’s really important to repay the favour.”

Despite not celebrating Christmas herself, the Muslim nurse wanted to show appreciation for her colleagues who do partake in the festivities. She continued: “My colleagues have all still gifted me a little present, and I love gifting too, so it’s only right to gift back!”

She added: “So this was what I came out with from my last-minute gift hunt at Home Bargains – my favourite place for having quality items with great prices, and everything on-theme is always done so well.”

Armed with just £5, she crafted eight delightful gift bags using items from the budget-friendly store. Her haul included mini gift bags priced at 59p each and Santa themed chocolate bags for 79p each.

She nabbed vitamin C serum masks for just 69p each, Cola stick sweets at a mere 15p each, Elf themed Haribo vegan gummy sweets for only 39p a packet, and Werther’s Originals for £1.19.

Not stopping there, she also picked up candy canes for £1.25 and festive fluffy socks for a cosy £1.50.

The medical worker explained her method: “I just equally divided everything, so I put two of the toffee sweets, one of the candy canes [in each bag], and then there was one of everything else. Although these are only small bits, I did pick everything with my colleagues in mind.”

Wrapping up her video, she praised: “Thank you Home Bargains for your impeccable service once again.”

Her thoughtful gesture didn’t go unnoticed as viewers chimed in with their approval. One commented: “What a lovely idea. Your colleagues are very lucky to have you.” “So thoughtful,” echoed another, while someone else wrote: “This is so cute”.
