A hot chocolate recipe has been branded the ‘best ever’ by millions of people online, as it’s so easy to make and only takes a few more minutes than the instant version

The festive season is here, and what better way to spend an evening than curled up on the sofa with a classic Christmas film and a delicious warm cup of hot chocolate?

Sure, you could reach for the instant stuff for a quick fix, but if you’re after something a bit more creamy, thick and indulgent, then one recipe is being hailed as the ‘best ever’ – and it doesn’t take much longer. The recipe was shared by Tineke Younger on TikTok, a chef who has gone viral this year thanks to her indulgent yet easy-to-follow recipes.

She’s amassed a whopping 10.3 million followers, with recipes like her macaroni cheese and chicken tenders racking up millions of views on the video-sharing app. Recently, she’s been sharing festive recipes in the run-up to Christmas, with her hot chocolate creation being dubbed ‘amazing’ by fans.

The chef says it only takes a few extra minutes compared to making it instant, but with the addition of double cream, it tastes so much thicker – and looks like the hot chocolate you’d see in films like The Polar Express. Tineke also made a peppermint whipped cream to garnish the drink, but if you’re short on time, you can just use a canned version.

Here’s everything you need to make this indulgent treat, according to the Express.

Hot chocolate with peppermint cream

Firstly, finely chop your dark chocolate into small pieces and set it aside. Next, mix the milk and cream in a jug. Pour this mixture into a small pot and gently heat it – avoid boiling. Once warmed, add three tablespoons each of cocoa powder and sugar, whisking to ensure no lumps form.

Gradually add the chopped chocolate, ensuring it melts before adding more. Stir in the vanilla and leave on low heat for another two minutes to thicken. For the peppermint cream, whip the double cream in a bowl until soft peaks form. Sieve in icing sugar – the quantity is up to you – ensuring it’s lump-free.

Continue whisking until the icing sugar is fully incorporated. Add vanilla and peppermint, then whisk until it thickens to resemble whipped cream. Serve the hot chocolate topped with a generous dollop of the cream. Enjoy!
