A man says he was left looking like Quagmire from the hit comedy cartoon show Family Guy.
Reece Mooney needed an emergency dentist appointment after he woke up with an “intense throbbing pain” in his tooth. He called 111 for advice and Reece, 24, was found to have an abscess where a filling had crackled and become infected.
Reece was sent home after being given antibiotics, but his nightmare continued as his face began to swell. In dramatic pictures that have gained over 3.8 million views and counting on TikTok, Reece could be seen looking vastly different. It was Reece, a bar supervisor from Liverpool, who tied his new look to Quagmire.
“I thought I’d sleep it off and it would hopefully have gone down by morning but when I woke up, my face had doubled in size,” he said. “I was in shock. I jokingly compared myself to Quagmire because my jaw was so swollen.”
He continued: “I was unable to eat anything other than soup. I rang the number 111 had given me, and they told me to wait 48 hours for the antibiotics to work.
“But the next day, the swelling was even bigger. On the fourth day, I went to the shop just to get out of the flat for a bit, and had to wear a neck warmer to cover up the lump as I was anxious people would notice.”
Reece went back to the dentist and was given different antibiotics to try, and the swelling eased a bit. He said: “The following night, I was lying in bed and tasted something horrible in my mouth. It turned out the abscess had burst, and I felt immediate pain relief.”
Reece is now concerned he might start to experience similar problems in the future. His troublesome tooth needed a recent root canal.
He added: “I’m currently attempting to register with a dentist in Liverpool… I’m originally from Dorset and a lot of practices aren’t accepting NHS patients at the moment, so I’m just waiting. But in the back of my mind, I’m still worried it could happen again if it’s not fixed soon.”
It comes after Courtney Bailey, 19, said she was left fighting for her life after she cracked her tooth and had to be rushed to the hospital. She also said she ended up looking like Quagmire.
Courtney revealed her horror ordeal started when she accidentally broke her tooth after biting down on her tongue piercing while playing with her dog. The young woman started vomiting and claimed her life was saved by a phone call her partner forced her to make.
