A male spectator plummeted from a 21-foot wall during Wednesday night’s Major League Baseball game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs. The horrifying moment in right field happened on camera and left players praying for their health.

The incident occurred just as Andrew McCutchen smashed a two-run double in the seventh inning to nudge the Pirates into a 4-3 lead. Then, a man can be seen falling head over heels from the 21 foot high wall.

Players immediately began signalling for medical help, pointing towards the man who had tumbled onto the warning track.

For about five minutes, the fallen fan received attention from both the Pirates and Cubs training teams, as well as stadium staff, before being whisked away from the field on a cart.

Following the game, the team released a statement revealing that the man had been rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, though no further information was provided.

As the fan was escorted off the field, players from both sides were seen praying, with McCutchen clutching a cross pendant around his neck.

The game was briefly halted while the man was cared for, but there was no official stoppage in play.

Tragically, there have been instances of fans losing their lives due to severe falls at baseball stadiums.

In 2015, Atlanta Braves season ticket holder Gregory K. Murrey toppled over guard rails from the upper deck at Turner Field.

This came four years after Shannon Stone, a firefighter attending a game with his 6 year old son, fell roughly 20 feet while trying to catch a foul ball thrown into the crowd at the Texas Rangers’ former stadium.

Both incidents led to a review of the height of guard rails at stadiums. The Rangers decided to raise theirs, while the Braves resolved a lawsuit with Murrey’s family.

In a separate incident in 2022, a spectator tragically lost their life after falling on an escalator at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium during an NFL game.
