Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke return in the award-winning Game of Thrones prequel, coming soon to Sky Atlantic
War is coming to Sky this summer, as House of the Dragon returns for a second season. The epic, award-winning prequel to Game of Thrones is just weeks away and Sky has ramped up the excitement by unveiling the show’s final official trailer.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, the series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. Devastated by the death of his wife and infant son, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) sent shockwaves through the kingdom in season one by declaring his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), his heir.
However, the ailing king’s marriage to Alicent of House Hightower (Olivia Cooke) results in a male heir putting Rheanyra’s claim on the Iron Throne in question. Season two takes viewers back to Westeros, which is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively.

House of the Dragon season two will premiere exclusively on Sky Atlantic on June 17. Its eight episodes will be released weekly with UK viewers able to catch each instalment at the same time as the US at 2am.
Fans can catch the new season with a Sky Stream free trial. Until May 23, Sky is giving away its Sky Stream and Netflix bundle absolutely free for 31 days, giving access to premium channels including Sky Atlantic and the hottest Netflix content like Baby Reindeer without paying a penny.
The plan comes with a new Sky Stream box, which lets members stream live and on-demand content to the TV using Wi-Fi instead of a satellite dish or aerial and offers easy access to apps like Disney+, Apple TV+ and Amazon’s Prime Video. All of this usually costs £31 a month, but customers can sign up here to try it free for a month, after which it can be cancelled or continued on a rolling month-by-month basis.
Sky Atlantic is also included with Sky Glass – Sky’s 4K UHD smart TV with Sky and Netflix built in – that now costs less than £1 per day for three months for the 65” model. House of the Dragon boasts a 93 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score for its first season, which earned several awards nominations and won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama.
Sky dropped the final trailer for season two on Tuesday (May 14), giving fans a glimpse at new cast member Tom Taylor as Lord of Winterfell Cregan Stark, and plenty of dragons. Fans flocked to social media as the new footage was unveiled, with some saying it looks so ‘epic’ it gave them ‘chills’.
