After six wins and counting, Liverpool will host Southampton in the third round of the Carabao Cup, hoping to advance their claim on a potential quadruple. The Saints, on the other hand, will make their way to Anfield on Tuesday evening hoping to end a run of three games without a victory.

Arne Slot’s Premier League champions are looking like good value to retain their title and add even more trophies to their cabinet. The Reds are already five points clear at the head of England’s top flight and have long been tipped for a clean sweep of silverware this season.

This will be the third straight season in which Liverpool and Southampton, currently 19th in the Championship, have met in cup competition. The Merseysiders knocked the south coast outfit out of the FA Cup fifth round in February 2024, then ousted them from last term’s League Cup in the quarter-finals.

In fact, Liverpool are undefeated in their last nine meetings with Southampton and have won eight of those. Mirror Football provides all the information you’ll need to view the action (for free) as the Saints hope to prevent their hosts making it 10 in a row.

What time is Liverpool vs Southampton?

Southampton’s trip to Liverpool will be the latest of Tuesday’s eight Carabao Cup kick-offs. The third-round action will get underway at Anfield at 8pm.

What channel is Liverpool vs Southampton on?

British viewers will have their pick of the litter in regards to where they watch the match, with both ITV and Sky Sports boasting TV rights. This is thanks to an ongoing rights partnership between the two broadcasters, which means many League Cup and Championship games will be shared between the two this season.

That’s music to the ears of many fans without an active Sky Sports subscription. And ITV1’s free-to-air coverage will get underway at 7.30pm, while the game will also be available to stream via the ITVX app.

For those with a Sky Sports subscription, Sky Sports Main Event will begin build-up ahead of kick-off from 7pm. Again, the match will be available to stream via the Sky Go app, while every Carabao Cup game will also be streamed via Sky Sports+.

What’s the Liverpool vs Southampton team news?

Despite the hunger to clinch four trophies this season, Slot will use Southampton as a chance to freshen up his ranks. In that vein, the Dutchman has already confirmed Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk will be rested after starting every game so far this term.

Alexander Isak made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in their 2-1 derby win over Everton at the weekend. However, the Swede is yet to make a domestic start for his new club amid Hugo Ekitike’s fine form and could make his full bow in midweek.

It also seems highly likely Giorgi Mamardashvili will step in for goalkeeper Alisson, with the likes of Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo eyeing starts. The same could be said for 17-year-old gem Rio Ngumoha as he looks to make just his second start for the club.

Southampton boss Will Still can’t afford the same luxuries in resting key men after a lacklustre start to life coaching in England. However, one name possibly set to change his starting XI is midfielder Flynn Downes, who missed Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Hull City due to illness.
