A woman hopes her boyfriend doesn’t propose with the engagement ring she found in his bedside table because she’s ‘not a fan’ – but people think she’s being out of order

Choosing the perfect engagement ring isn’t always easy.

If you don’t know exactly what sort of ring your partner would like, then there’s always a chance you pick out something they don’t want to wear – which isn’t ideal when it’s one of the most important pieces of jewellery they will ever own, second only to the wedding ring that will replace it once you tie the knot.

With all this in mind, it’s no wonder that people spend a lot of time trying to find the perfect engagement ring that both fits their budget and is sure to make their partner happy. One man thought he’d nailed the brief when he picked up a ring for his girlfriend – but she had other ideas.

The woman found her boyfriend’s engagement ring in his bedside table and was left horrified by what she saw as she declared she wasn’t a “fan” of the design he had selected. But instead of telling her boyfriend what had happened, she took to a ring shaming group on Facebook to share her horror with strangers.

She shared a snap of the ring and wrote: “Ewwwww. Self-shame Friday here I come. Found this in the BF’s nightstand. Not a fan. Please roast and then tell me how to tactfully say no you need to go get something different.”

A screengrab of the post was later shared to Reddit, where users were quick to slam the woman for being so rude about her boyfriend’s ring choice before he’d even had the chance to use it to propose to her.

One person replied: “What a b****.” Another said: “This is the saddest thing I’ve seen on this sub. It’s one thing when it’s a total stranger, but when someone that’s supposed to love you unconditionally acts like a grifter it’s just plain sad.” A third added: “Honestly her saying no would be the best thing to happen to the person who’s planning to propose.”

Someone else suggested a plot twist – that the ring wasn’t even for her. While a different user thought that it might have belonged to his mum or grandmother and he’d wanted to pass it down to his future wife.
