A woman who did the 75 hard challenge has shared an incredible weight loss transformation after ditching one type of exercise and increasing another. Here’s all you need to know

For those trying to slim down, cutting out carbs and pounding the pavement might seem like a smart move, but one woman has shown us there’s another way to win at weight loss.

Influencer @jamievanslooten revealed that saying goodbye to running in favour of more walking was a game-changer after completing the ’75 hard’ challenge where she “shed a layer [of fat]”.

The rigorous ’75 hard’ programme involves choosing any diet (which could simply mean eating fewer calories), abstaining from alcohol, undertaking two 45-minute workouts each day, guzzling a gallon of water, snapping daily progress photos, and reading 10 pages of a personal development book every day.

Naturally, it’s wise to have a word with your GP before diving into such an intense regime to ensure it is a fit for you. And remember, you don’t have to go all-out to start getting healthier.

Jamie showcased her transformation in before-and-after shots, pointing out that although she wasn’t “in bad shape” initially, throughout the challenge, she managed to “shed a layer” of blubber while packing on muscle.

As part of her two daily workouts, she often chose “pilates” followed by a “45 minute walk rather than high-intensity runs.

Discussing her diet, she confessed to focusing on high protein intake and limiting dining out, but when temptation struck, Jamie made a point to only choose healthy options.

Jamie revealed that she actually reduced her running and increased her walking, which she believes made a significant difference. She also shared that consuming protein-rich foods helped her to “put on muscle” and kept her feeling satisfied throughout the day, preventing unhealthy snacking.

She further credited her high water intake for improving her overall wellbeing, stating that she was “always really hydrated”. Jamie noted that her skin usually fares well, but during her health challenge, she didn’t experience any breakouts, attributing this to her hydration levels.

Additionally, she felt more satiated due to the water keeping her full throughout the day. Encouraging others to try her method, Jamie said, “do it”, viewing it as a “little health reset”.

One curious follower asked why walking was more beneficial than running, to which another user responded: “It’s a lower cortisol workout”.

Her impressive results and consistency earned her praise from fellow TikTokers, with one saying: “Yesss for the bomb results and consistency”, and another declaring: “Ah you’ve inspired me! Starting tomorrow”.

The NHS recommends adults engage in some form of physical activity daily. Even exercising once or twice a week can reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke.

Adults should aim to:

  • do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week
  • do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week
  • spread exercise evenly over 4 to 5 days a week, or every day
  • reduce time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity
