Megan Hill, 21, from Essex, has issued a warning to others about holidaying with an ex, after she shared a bed with hers at a luxury five-star hotel in Corfu, Greece

An Essex lass has dished out advice urging other against jetting off on hols with an ex, insisting the cash saved isn’t worth the cringe and heartache.

Megan Hill, 21, had visions of a dreamy anniversary in Corfu, Greece, with her beau Shane, splurging on a swanky five-star retreat to mark their two years together.

But when their love hit the rocks, Megan and Shane, both having forked out £900 each, bravely chose to stick with their plans despite the split, lacking travel insurance to recoup the costs.

Before they even took to the skies, Megan felt the sting of a “cutting remark” from her former flame’s dad about her cool exterior compared to her ex’s supposed sorrow.

“My ex’s dad, who drove us to the airport, made a cutting remark about my ex’s apparent heartbreak compared to my composed demeanour. It was an emotional punch that left me feeling self-conscious and embarrassed. This set the tone for a trip filled with awkwardness and unspoken tension,” Megan recounted, reports the Daily Star.

Touching down in Corfu meant setting some strict rules to dodge discomfort sharing a bed with your ex is no picnic, after all.

“I had to create a pillow barrier between us to maintain some semblance of personal space. We had established clear boundaries: no touching, no saying ‘I love you’, and no discussions about getting back together. Despite these rules, being in such close quarters was challenging,” Megan confessed.

Navigating the sea of loved-up duos was yet another test for the estranged couple, with Megan revealing that although they seldom squabbled when they were an item, their supposed tranquil getaway was marred by frequent, emotionally charged spats – a stark contrast to their past relationship.

“I felt constantly guilty and unable to relax. If you find yourself in a similar situation, my advice is simple: cancel the trip if you can. The emotional toll isn’t worth it.”

But there’s a glimmer of hope for those caught in Megan’s predicament, as travel firm First Choice has rolled out a new service that lets travellers scrap their holiday plans up to 48 hours before flying off, offering a full refund in the process.

According to the travel giant, a whopping 80% of young Brits confess to finding it tough to turn down trips with mates.

Flex is offering a solution for those uncertain about their travel plans, and it’s got the backing of Hollywood legend Dame Joan Collins who stated: “life is too short for holidays from hell. But plans you can cancel within 48 hours notice? Now that’s a flex.”

Despite the ups and downs of their holiday, the couple did manage to find some moments of peace.

Megan shared: “[We] had booked all inclusive, so we enjoyed the fantastic food and drink in the hotel, played cards, explored Corfu, and even enjoyed some pleasant dinners and walks together.

“However, the Italian restaurant we ate out in was super romantic, so that was pretty awkward and served as a bittersweet reminder of why we had got together in the first place, though the experience only reinforced that our relationship had run its course.”
