Liverpool-based teaching assistant Elspeth Todd was left ‘mortified’ after her DIY brow lamination attempt saw her students compare her to a ‘Tesco meal deal barcode’

Teacher told her eyebrows look like barcodes

A teacher was left “mortified” after she tried a popular beauty trend only to be told she looks like she has a “Tesco meal deal barcode” on her head.

Elspeth Todd, who posts online as @_elspxth, is known for posting content about her life as a teacher and actor, based in Liverpool. She has always considered herself to be a trendy teaching assistant in her day job — but the kids have a very different opinion.

The actress recently went viral after students rinsed her for “dressing like the cast of Sister Act” in one of her previous outfits. But now, she is being trolled for trying a viral eyebrow trend.

In a video, which has gained more than 37,000 likes, she explained that she had tried a DIY brow lamination kit at home.

The beauty trend, which is also referred to as brow sculpt or brow lift, aims to make your eyebrow hairs look neat by ensuring that they all go in the same direction.

However, when Elspeth gave it a go, her students compared her eyebrows to “barcodes” leaving her reluctant to try the trend again. She wrote: “Walked into school today and my students asked me if Id bought a discounted meal deal by SCANNING MY EYEBROWS.”

She added in the caption: “Don’t think I’lll be trying home permanent lamination again… Mortified is an understatement so much for being the trendy teacher assistant and teacher here’s to being a discounted Tesco meal deal…

TikTok users were left in stitches over the video as they took to the comments to give their opinions. A viewer penned: “Kids are put on this earth to humble us fr.”

Someone else wrote: “That’s class,” while a third joked: “How much was the discount? Lol.” To which, she quipped: “Only 10%.”

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Just don’t brush them upwards, no one eyebrow shape is like that naturally. That trend is awful. Kids humbling us every day.”

Elspeth’s professional acting career has seen her collaborate with Everyman Theatre, Shakespeare North, and is an award-winning playwright with her original play scheduled for production in January 2025.
