The holy grail makeup from Bobbi Brown’s second beauty brand, Jones Road, has become many fans’ favourite blush for a natural no-makeup flushed look and beauty writer Tiffany Lo tried it first-hand

When Bobbi Brown left her namesake beauty brand, I was devastated as it was my first and go-to choice for “no makeup” makeup. I was four years late to realise that she has set up her own company called Jones Road and I was absolutely thrilled to try the infamous Miracle Balm.

Embracing the ‘less is more’ trend this year, Bobbi Brown’s Jones Road Miracle Balm, £36, is exactly the product you want to use when keeping everything minimal on face. Available in multiple shades this autumn, the new Pinched Cheeks is a lovely medium rosy pink with subtle shimmer for fair to dark skin tones.

You may think that it’s quite expensive for a blush but, trust me, you get a lot of use with this 50g balm. I used it every day for my week-long holiday and I barely scraped anything off the surface. With nearly 60,000 reviews online and many praising the natural glow, I was excited to test it out.

Initially I was worried about putting too much product on, as the Miracle Balm looks like dark purple rather than pink in the pot. But as I warmed up the balm to soften the formula, I realised it’s a sheer blush with really subtle pink tones. Because of the waxy balm texture, applying the blush with bare hands is the best – you simply take the product and dab it lightly across your cheek bones.

It’s hard to spot the makeup if you only apply one layer so dabbing two to three layers on will give you the “pinched cheeks” look – and the bonus is the sheer glow. A friend of mine noticed the reflective shimmer when the sunlight hit my face and described it as giving a “goddess look”. No wonder why one’s sold every 30 seconds and it is a Liberty’s bestseller, according to Jones Road.

If you are looking for a blush to give you a sunkissed look, the Jones Road Miracle Balm is going to be the one and the best thing, you can adjust the intensity of the blush in anyway you want. To me, the Miracle Balm is a blush and highlighter in one.

Other shoppers also found it a five-star product, with one sharing: “I have yet to find a miracle balm I don’t like, one of the biggest reasons is the ability to manage the amount of colour. This warm colour is almost perfect for me and blends well with my favourite go to, dusty rose. And it is so kind to my mature skin.”

Another added: “The balm alone or on top of the foundation is like putting frosting on a cake. It’s perfect and makes me feel like I can face anything knowing I look as good as I can.”

But not everyone’s a fan of the shimmer and because of the balmy texture, it is sticky to touch and blotting it with powder won’t help. With that said, I occasionally found hair stuck on my cheeks.

One complained: “I see no colour whatsoever. I have an olive skin tone. I put three layers and couldn’t tell. I asked my daughter how it looked, well I can’t tell that you have anything on. Should I pay that much money to look like I have nothing on? Plus it feels very greasy on my skin.”

A second said the Miracle Balm was too shimmery, saying: “I followed the pieces of advice sent to me by Jones Road but it’s too shimmery and I would like something lighter during the day. The texture is five stars though.”

The Miracle Balm is available in 13 colours and costs £36. Morphe’s Huephoric Rush 3-in-1 Silk Blush is also in a balm texture but it also primes and blurs skin with hydration. Currently on offer at £12.60 at Boots, shoppers can choose between six different colours.

As for an high-end option, organic beauty brand Tata Harper’s Cream Blush, £33 is a serious beauty win. It is infused with antioxidant oils, giving your cheeks a touch of flush while also protecting against free radicals and smoothing visible signs of ageing.
