A money-savvy travel enthusiast has found easy ways to enjoy a holiday in the Maldives while on a budget – with two meals, a night in a beachfront hotel, and travel costing £41.67 per day

A savvy woman has shared exactly how she was able to enjoy a luxury holiday without it costing a fortune – thanks to a few easy tricks.

We have all seen those incredible pictures of the glistening, clear seas and peaceful-looking sandy beaches when people jet off to the Maldives. The beautiful spot, which is the smallest country in Asia, is between 10 hours and 11 hours on a plane from the UK. It has become a go-to for weddings and honeymoons, and is often visited by celebrities.

According to Travel Republic, the average price of a two-week getaway in the Maldives is around £3,400 per person – including transport, accommodations, meals, and some activities. Prices change depending on where you stay and the time of year you go. People who dream of going to the picturesque destination often spend years saving up for the trip of a lifetime.

Travel influencer Kara helps people find a way to travel where they want, without spending a fortune. She said travelling to the Maldives on a budget was a “massive success” and was able to spend less than £50 a day.

Kara and her friend Tasha flew from the UK to the Maldives’ capital Male, and documented it all on TikTok. They got off the plane and went through immigration and said the visa was free. Then it was time for the friends to get to their accommodation – instead of travelling by seaplanes or speedboats, like most do, they found a ferry terminal outside of the airport which set them back 77p per person to get to the main city.

While waiting for a second ferry to take them to Thulusdoo, they pair got a Burger King for £7. They then boarded the second ferry, which takes two hours and costs £1.20. You can get a speedboat which takes half an hour, but it will set you back £25. They were also picked up from the ferry terminal on a golf buggy driven by a hotel staff member.

Instead of staying on one of the popular islands, it was more cost effective for the pair to stop on one of the local islands, Kara explained. “It was way cheaper,” she added. The beachfront hotel set the pair back £28 per person per night, which included tourist tax and breakfast.

To kick-start their holiday, the pair admired the sunset before enjoying an evening meal for just £6.50. The entire day cost Kara £41.67 – including accommodation, two meals, two ferry rides.

“I did not think the Maldives was going to be this affordable,” Kara commented. The video on her TikTok page @okay.kara.travels raked in 3million views. Relating to her experience, one individual said: “We did the Maldives on a budget.”

Another, who wished they had seen Kara’s tips sooner, said: “I’m just back from the Maldives and we were over £10K – only five nights as well.” A third said: “Never thought it could be affordable! Amazing.”
