Samsung is holding a major launch event this week and smart new foldable smartphones could be top of the agenda.

There’s a big week ahead for Samsung Galaxy fans and if you own one of the Korean tech firm’s foldable smartphones – including Z Fold3, Z Fold4 or Z Flip4 – we’d look away now. It’s been confirmed that a major launch event is taking place on Wednesday, July 10 with Samsung promising it will unveil some “cutting-edge innovations”.

The company has also revealed that the upgrades will be coming to its Z range of bendable devices which means we should get our first glimpse of the new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5.

These will supersede the current Flip4 and Fold4 and probably make them look a little inferior.

“On July 10, Samsung Electronics will host Galaxy Unpacked in Paris — where the iconic cultural nexus and trend epicenter becomes the perfect backdrop for the rollout of our latest cutting-edge innovations,” Samsung said in a post on its website.

We’ll have to wait and see exactly what is uncovered on Wednesday but it appears these latest and greatest call makers will be a lot smarter than before.

“The next frontier of Galaxy AI is coming,” Samsung confirmed.

“Prepare to discover the power of Galaxy AI, now infused into the latest Galaxy Z series and the entire Galaxy ecosystem. Get ready for a world of possibilities as we enter a new phase of mobile AI.”

Artificial Intelligence has already been built into the new Galaxy S24 range with phones able to translate calls in real-time, transcribe voice recordings into editable text and retouch images automatically.

Those clever upgrades now look destined for the new Galaxy Z phones as well.

Samsung won’t reveal full specs until the launch but we can expect all the usual changes such as better screens, new design, improved cameras and more power under the hood. Unlike the Galaxy S phones which use a mix of processors, the new Z devices look set to all get the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip from Qualcomm making things a little less confusing for consumers.

Mirror Online will be heading to Paris to bring you all the news live from this launch so watch this space for full details.

One thing is for sure… Samsung’s timing couldn’t be better.

Arch-rival Motorola has just launched two new foldables including the mightily impressive Razer 50 ultra which now gets a bigger 4-inch front display that covers the entire case. That makes it far easier to reply to emails, play games and snap photos without flipping open the device.

Better cameras, a more robust design and extra power are also included along with plenty of AI built in to help improve the user experience.

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is on sale now for £999. The slightly less impressive Razr 50 will cost £799 and will be available later in July.
