Jones Road’s new Hero Kit aims to speed up your makeup routine with five easy-to-use products but does it live up to its name?

Jones Road’s secret of no-makeup makeup is loved by beauty fans who want a quick fix on-the-go or before dashing out of the home and as a Beauty journalist, I tested the Jones Road Hero Kit which claims to deliver a stunning look in five steps.

The Hero Kit, retails at £84, is available in two shades – Pinky or Peachy, so what is inside the Jones Road kit? Shoppers will find a nourishing Eye Cream, Best Pencil in brown, The Mascara in black and two mini Miracle Balm. Pinky comes with shades Flushed and Magic Hour for blush and highlight; and Peachy comes with Miami Beach and Golden Hour.

I tested the Peachy kit as a last-minute makeup challenge and wondered if it did what it said on the tin – to build this curated look by Bobbi in five minutes. Having cleansed and prepped my skin, I dabbed pea-sized eye cream in the hope to stop concealer from caking in the crease. The unscented cream glided on easily thanks to the thick texture, but it took a quick few taps to let it “sink in”.

Then I moved onto my eye makeup and that’s probably my favourite item of the kit – The Best Pencil (£24 alone). The application is smooth and I love that it is easy to build up the colour intensity as I go along the lash line twice. There’s no need for me to drag my eyelids and my eyeliner stayed in tact with no smudge throughout the night. One thing to note is that the eyeliner pencil does not come with a sharpener so shoppers have to either use their own or buy one from the website.

The Mascara did a great job at lengthening lashes but I found it lack of the “maximised effect” that I was looking for. The curved wand is easy to use and I adapted the Charlotte Tilbury’s “blink and swipe” technique to further bring out my eyes. In terms of effect, it is similar to Chantecaille’s Faux Cils Mascara but Chantecaille’s formula contains nourishing rose oil and rich in mineral salts and Red Seaweed Extract.

Half way there and the final steps are the blush and highlight. Bobbi Brown loved using the Miracle Balm for multiple functions whether it is to enhance complexion or a mood lifter. I first tried to rub it in but I couldn’t pick up any pigment so I went online to look for instructions – break the top surface seal of the balm with your index finger, then warm it up to soften the formula.

The Miami Beach is a warm coral peach that really compliments my fair-medium skin tone and the Golden Hour highlight balm gives a sheer gold sheen, which is probably too subtle to my liking. But the glossy texture enhances glow to my complexion. I managed to finish my look within seven minutes, which was not bad at all.

But the sticky balm texture got my hair stuck on the face when I walked out in the wind and it is tricky to powder my cheeks and I had to leave the area. The value of this Jones Road Hero Kit is amazing, for £85 that brings each product down to £17.

Debenhams reduced the price of YSL Makeup Icon Discovery Kit Gift Set from £123 to £73.80, which features a makeup primer, a mascara, a LoveShine lipstick and Candy Glow lip balm. Boots’ With Love Mother’s Day Box, £55, is also ideal for a gift to yourself or to any mother figure in your life.
