Mum-of-two Kelly Wynne pushed herself to make a dramatic change after her lockdown break-up, and hasn’t looked back after losing an amazing eight stone
A mother-of-two has spoken out about how she managed to shed an incredible eight stone without using to weight loss jabs or surgery after a break-up spurred her into action. And one daily habit made all the difference.
Kelly Wynne, 39, began struggling with her weight in her 30s after welcoming her daughters, Luna, seven, and Flossie, five. While working shifts, the hairdresser would turn to “convenient” takeaways, which she would often order in the evenings too.
She explained: “It piled on quickly – I put on five stone in three years. I was terrible with food. My portions could probably feed two. If I had one bad day, it turned into a bad week and then bad month. I would skip breakfast and nip out between clients to get a McDonald’s. In the evening, I was too tired to cook and ended up getting kebabs or takeaway curries.”

At her heaviest, Kelly weighed 19st 9lb and wore a clothing size 22, and her weight gain resulted in frustrating health concerns which left her “miserable”. Kelly, from Rhydefelin, Wales, shared: “I had terrible knees and back pain all the time. I could barely walk let alone run around after the kids – I was really miserable.”
In 2020, during the days of lockdown, Kelly’s relationship with her ex-partner “broke down”, with the split prompting her to make a determined change. Kelly recalled: “It really triggered the change in me. It opened my eyes to the way I was treating my body. That’s when I really felt it – I looked and felt terrible. I was really was determind to love myself again.”
Showing extraordinary dedication, Kelly threw herself into a more active lifestyle, walking 10,000 steps a day “without fail” while pushing her children in the pram “up and down the Welsh Valleys.”
She also completely switched up her diet, “meal prepping” batches of homecooked meals while keeping track of the calories she was consuming. Over the course of just under a year, Kelly dropped five stone and was keen to continue her incredible progress.
Once the schools re-opened, Kelly struck up what proved to be a life-changing conversation with fellow school mum Lucy Artiss, 41, who invited her to along to train with her at the gym. Kelly recalled: “She saw me outside the school gate and told me I looked amazing. I wanted to lose more weight but had plateaued a bit. She said, ‘Why don’t you come and train with me?’
Nowadays, Kelly trains five days a week with tattoo artist Lucy, focusing on a mix of cardio and weight lifting, and the results speak for themselves. Kelly revealed: “Lucy was an amazing help – it was like having a free PT! The more results I saw, the more addictive it became. She helped me lose another three stone.”
The two sporty mums refer to themselves as the “muscle mummies”, and Kelly has discovered a new passion for working out. Altogether, Kelly has lost eight stone, dropping to 11st 9lb and a size 12-14. Kelly said: “I wanted to feel better and learn to love myself again. With Lucy’s amazing support, she helped me shift even more weight. We call ourselves the ‘muscle mummies’, and I’m in the best shape of my life.”
Going forward, Kelly now inspires others navigating their own weight loss journeys through her TikTok account @kellyforthewynne, which has clocked up 14.7k followers and counting. According to Kelly: “I love helping people on their and motivating them. It took me a good year but I learnt to change my mindset. I don’t stop myself having treats but do it in moderation.
“It is possible to do it without fat-loss injections and gastric surgery. Nothing against it, but not everyone can afford it, and I feel like this has taught me the importance of exercise and a good diet. Now, I can play with the kids, and I go out with friends confidently. I’m stronger and happier in myself.”
