Tulisa Contostavlos is one of the contestants on this year’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, during which she told campmates about the history of her band N-Dubz
Tulisa Contostavlos fans expressed their shock to learn last night the meaning of her band’s name N-Dubz.
The singer shot to fame as part of the R&B group, which was made up of her cousin Dappy and his best friend Fazer. Tulisa, who joined the group when she was just 11-years-old, is in this year’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and, on Monday’s episode, she told her campmates about her band.
When Oti Mabuse, herself a professional dancer, asked Tulisa, 36, exactly what N-Dubz stands for, the X-Factor star told her it was after the postcode for North West London. Oti, 34, quipped: “I’m N-Dubz!”
And fans couldn’t believe the group’s name was after a postcode as they took to X, formerly Twitter, to share comments. One viewer wrote: “N-Dubz meaning NW London #ImACeleb.” Another said: “N-Dubz has a meaning?? #imaceleb.” A third stated: “Wow, I just realised that N-Dubz originates from the NW postcode.”
A further social media user posted: “Sorry I’m absolutely hysterical at ima celebrate after Tulisa explained N-Dubz means north west london and Oti said omg I’m N-Dubz and Tulisa went ‘na na naiiii'”
One X user said: “I didn’t know that’s what N-Dubz meant either lol #ImACeleb… I was today years old when I realised N-Dubz stood for NW.”
But Tulisa told her campmates she almost “gave up” on the band before they became famous when she was aged 17. The band since had success with the likes of I Need You in 2009 and We Dance On the following year.
Dappy originally wanted to be a solo star, but her Uncle B, Dappy’s dad, said they should be in a group, Tulisa said on I’m a Celebrity. When Alan Halsall commended her for sticking at the group, Tulisa admitted: “At the moment we made it, I was at the sort of ‘give up’ stage.” She added: “It just goes to show in all situations, hang on in there guys.”
