Tulisa Contostavlos surprised fans of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! this week as she discussed her ‘demisexual’ approach to romance – but her N-Dubz co-star ex was not surprised
Tulisa Contostavlos’s ex-boyfriend – and fellow member of N-Dubz – Fazer has addressed her sexuality over a decae after they split.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Tulisa, 36, has spawned curiosity while starring on the ITV show as she candidly revealed she is demisexual – meaning she is attracted to people’s personalities, rather than their gender or physical characteristics. The Young singer and N-Dubz bandmate Fazer – real name Richard Rawson, 37 – dated from mid-2010 until February 2012.
During her time in the jungle so far, Tulisa has been something of an open book about her sexuality – revealing that she has been celibate for three years as well as informing her campmates, and by proxy the nation, about her demisexual preferences. However, Fazer has stated the ‘revelation’ was not news to him as he already knew this about his ex-partner.
Fazer – who makes up N-Dubz alongside Tulisa and her cousin Dappy, real name Costadinos Contostavlos, 37 – says that Tulisa was always more interested in emotions and a connection rather than appearances. He also said she has long been more interested in long-term love rather than quick relationships.
He told The Sun: “She has always been like that. She’s always been like a hermit crab that goes inside its shell, you go too close to it, it goes back inside its shell. Her whole life, any sort of relationship that she’s been in has always been long-term for that person, it’s never been short-term.”
He added: “What she’s saying is absolutely true – that’s just how she feels. It’s like she wants to meet people, but there’s something inside her that doesn’t let her meet people.”
On Wednesday, I’m A Celebrity fans saw Tulisa open up about her sexuality while engaging in conversation with campmates. She confided in radio host Dean McCullough and soap star Alan Halsall that she feels “like I’m demisexual”, adding: “I need to have a really close emotional bond with someone.”
In March 2012, Tulisa was devastated when a sex tape circulated online showing her engaging in a sex act with ex-boyfriend Justin Edwards. She was ultimately granted an injunction that legally blocked the distribution of the tape – but admitted she was left traumatised by the betrayal.
Speaking to former Love Island star Olivia Attwood on her So Wrong It’s Right podcast, the singer recounted the hell she experienced as a result of the leak. Tulisa explained: “Honestly, there’s no words to describe. It felt like virtual rape, that’s the only way I can describe the emotion. It was just horrific. I felt so, just, judged and I felt disgusting, I felt ashamed.
“It just felt horrible, there’s no words to describe. It’s taken me many, many years to come to terms with it. Now, for me, all pain is growth, so every single part of my experiences I was meant to feel and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them.” The singer went on to explain that there “is no regret” from her behalf and recognised that the situation was “her path,” before stating that she was “meant to live it”.
