As the weather grows colder and condensation becomes a problem for some of us again this hack for cleaning black mould is sure to come in handy.

A cleaning enthusiast on TikTok shared this game-changing anti-mould cleaning hack that could eliminate the need for exhaustive scrubbing efforts – and it may cost as little as 70p. Many people struggle with black mould growing in damp areas but the Tiktoker, called Jess, showed how she restored her mould-covered bathroom seals to immaculate condition.

“Guys I am shocked at this,” she said on her social media profile, @homeby.jess. “[In] one of my previous videos I asked for some help on how to remove the mould from the seals around my bath. “And so many people commented saying to do this, so I thought I’d give it a try and I actually cannot believe how well it’s worked.”

Black mould, which loves damp and poorly ventilated corners of our homes, is not only unsightly but its spores can also lead to a range of health problems, including respiratory and lung issues, Wales Online reports. Jess described how she applied some bleach to the seals around her bathtub, which were then covered with cotton pads and another layer of bleach ‘just to let it soak in’. After leaving it to soak for seven hours she said she was amazed by the transformation.

“As someone who rents her house, I did not want to be forking out the money to replace these seals,” she said, before adding: “I will repeat this just to get rid of any bits I might have missed.” Specialists at Cleanipedia also recommend a mix of bleach and water spray to destroy mould spores and they also suggest common kitchen items like baking soda and white vinegar too. However it is best to exercise caution as certain bleaches can potentially cause ‘severe damage’ to sealant materials. Hence, it may be prudent to reserve the use of bleach for particularly extreme mould issues. You can buy bleach for as little as 70p from Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
