Turns out, denture tablets can cut through grease and grime better than some chemical-filled cleaning products – leaving your home germ-free and sparkling. Here’s how to use them

If it’s good enough for your teeth – it’s good enough for your home.

Denture tablets might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cleaning products, but experts rave they’re a must-have for a gleaming bathroom. Usually made from ingredients including sodium bicarbonate and citric acid, the effervescent tablets can ‘dissolve dirt and grease easily’ without the effort of scrubbing for hours. They’re also great for neutralising odours and lifting stains – both essential for a bathroom deep clean – all whilst killing bacteria and germs. If you’re wanting to stay away from potent bleach and chemical-riddled products, denture tablets might just be your new best friend.

To get started, fill your bathroom sink with warm water and drop a few tablets in. “Leave the tablet for at least 30 minutes before cleaning and rinsing out the sink,” states Ideal Home. You can use the same method to get rid of dirt and melt residue away in the bath tub. Denture tablets can also help unclog sinks bunged up with grime and limescale. Simply drop a few tablets into the plughole and add a splash of white vinegar to allow the duo to start fizzing and work its magic. Then, flush everything through with hot water and repeat if necessary.

There are some tasks denture tablets aren’t quite up for. Consumer brand Which? tried dissolving several denture tablets in a lime-scale ridden toilet, scrubbing the deposits with a loo brush and leaving overnight before flushing. However, the tablets had failed to lift hardly any of the chalky deposits at all. You can pick up denture tablets from a slew of supermarkets and high-street retailers for less than £1. For example, Superdrug is currently selling a tube of 30 that will only set you back 87p. You can also grab a bottle of white vinegar from Tesco for just 35p.
