Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad, has been shaken by massive explosions, with flames lighting up the night sky as conflict escalates. Numerous individuals have taken to social media to share images of bright orange flames engulfing the skies of Islamabad.
Videos shared online depict flames and smoke billowing near the Margalla Hills and Chaklala area of Rawalpindi, in close proximity to military installations. At least three blasts were reported across Islamabad, with separate reports of an explosion in Lahore earlier in the evening.
Social media reports suggest drones were involved, with some speculating they were shot down by Pakistani forces. The Pakistani military has yet to officially comment. Several Pakistani sources reported that military sites in Lahore and Islamabad were the intended targets, with reports suggesting India may be stepping up its military operations following a terror attack last month that killed several Hindu tourists.

It comes just hours after a wave of blasts was reported across Indian-administered Kashmir, including 10 near the airport in Srinagar and others in Amritsar, the Sikh holy city in Punjab state. The Indian military confirmed it was shooting down drones across multiple regions and accused Pakistan of endangering civilian lives by keeping its airspace open during Thursday night’s aerial assault.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said: “Pakistan launched an unprovoked aerial assault, targeting Indian territory with drones and missiles.” She added that civilian aircraft were being used as shields, with commercial flights still active during the attack.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has claimed that India fired ballistic missiles that landed within Indian territory, according to Reuters. The claim has not been independently verified. Earlier on Thursday, blasts were heard across Indian Kashmir and the city of Amritsar in Punjab state, as the Indian military said it was shooting down drones in what it described as the worst fighting with Pakistan in nearly three decades.
Residents in Jammu reported seeing projectiles and flashes lighting up the night sky during a blackout, while the explosions in Amritsar were the first reported in the three-day-old conflict.

I express my gratitude for the prayers of our Turkish brothers for the martyrs of yesterday’s treacherous missile attacks by India. I informed him about the heroic efforts of our armed forces who responded to the enemy with courage and professional excellence. We will protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs. Pakistan is grateful to Türkiye for its efforts to reduce tensions and maintain peace in South Asia.”
