Apartments on the luxury yacht, that is being built in Norway, start at £8.1m and a high court judge has ruled that a £733,750 unpaid design debt must be settled
Imagine a life of unparalleled luxury on the world’s largest yacht, where ultra-high-end apartments float on the sea, catering to the whims of the super rich.
Welcome to Somnio, Latin for ‘Dream’, a £480million marvel that was initially set to launch last year but faced delays.
Recently, the project encountered another hurdle when the entrepreneur behind it was ordered to settle a substantial unpaid bill. According to The Times, London-based Winch Design took the project’s leaders to court over an unpaid debt of £733,750 for initial design work.
With the legal dispute now resolved, let’s take a peek inside this gargantuan vessel designed exclusively for the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Inside Somnio
Five years ago, the public got its first glimpse of this behemoth, and the details are as opulent as you could imagine.
Somnio stretches an impressive 728 feet in length and boasts 39 “customisable” apartments, each carrying a staggering price tag of £8.1 million.
Some of these condos sprawl over 6,500 square feet, complete with private balconies, while the largest occupies almost the entire top deck, redefining the concept of luxury living.
In a tantalising pitch to prospective buyers, the website for the ultra-luxurious Somnio yacht boasts: “The Beach Club area will open up to the outside deck with a large lap pool and two large spas as well as bars and sumptuous outdoor lounges and seating features.
“At the stern, the Marina area will house a wide range of watersports equipment and boats to facilitate beach landings, excursions, fishing, diving and snorkelling.”
Not only that, but those with deep pockets can indulge in a 10,000 bottle wine cellar and tasting room. The lavish apartments span six decks, and residents can benefit from “world-class medical facilities” with the site highlighting protection from “pandemics and global risks”.
Crafted in Norway, Somnio is designed to strike a “perfect balance between spacious communal areas and private residences”. It promises amenities akin to a “6-star resort” including personal gyms, libraries, and various gourmet restaurants.
Round-the-clock concierge services are promised, with an emphasis on “slow-paced travel”. Beyond luxury, the vessel is set to embark on eco-missions, hosting scientists conducting oceanic research with cutting-edge tools.
At the helm of this ambitious project is one of its co-founders, Captain Erik Bredhe, formerly the Master of M/V The World – the sole residential ship on the high seas.
The grand vision for the Somnio superyacht was first unveiled by Aussie entrepreneur Carl Le Souef, who has recently been slapped with a hefty £730,000 bill from Winch Designs. Le Souef’s dream to create his own luxury vessel was sparked back in 2007 during an encounter with Bredhe’s The World residential ship, where condos fetch up to a cool £12 million.
As reported by The Times, Le Souef and Bredhe teamed up to kickstart Somnio, enticing prospective buyers with apartments secured by £100,000 non-refundable deposits. Co-founder Bredhe once remarked: “Beauty may be found as much on the inside of Somnio as it is on the outside. Our owners will experience only the best, as is befitting of a yacht of this nature.”
He also insisted that the identities of those snapping up these luxurious abodes would remain a “tightly guarded secret”.
