Inter hero Benjamin Pavard called on his side to go all the way and win the Champions League after they dumped Harry Kane and Bayern Munich out.

Former Tottenham duo Kane and Eric Dier tried to inspire a Bayern fight back but Inter held on to set up a semi-final clash with Barcelona. Bayern defender Josip Stanisic even pushed over a ball boy late on in desperation as it threatened to turn ugly.

But two goals in three minutes from hit man Lautaro Martinez and Pavard at the San Siro was enough to hold off the injury-hit German giants.

Former Bayern defender Pavard said: “We did our job very well. We don’t set limits, since we’ve come this far we want to keep going. We’re an excellent group with an excellent staff that has been working well for two years.”

England hero Kane will have to wait another year to go for European glory even if he will likely end his trophy drought by winning the Bundesliga this season. But it wasn’t to be here for Vincent Kompany’s men who were without Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano and Jamal Musiala.

Bayern boss Kompany said: “We have to look back at the big topic before the games against Inter. It was all about all the players we were missing with injuries. I think we did well anyway.”

Kane’s 35th goal of the season just seven minutes into the second half had Kompany dreaming of a comeback win after their 2-1 defeat in the first leg at the Allianz Arena. But just six minutes later, Martinez got his eighth goal in Europe this season after Joshua Kimmich failed to clear from a corner.

Just three minutes later, Hakan Calhanoglu fizzed across a corner and former Bayern man Pavard rose to head home his first goal for Inter to put them two clear on aggregate. A superb looping header from former Spurs defender Dier shook the San Siro as it gave Bayern hope.

The Germans pushed for a third on the night to force extra-time in the tie and keep alive hopes of winning the European Cup at their own stadium next month. A late chance fell to Thomas Muller, who will leave the club this summer, but he couldn’t get it past Yann Sommer in the Inter net.
