Donald Trump has condemned Israel’s strike on Hamas in Qatar’s capital of Doha, that killed at least five Hamas members.

A spokesperson for the Israeli military said that the county’s defences were “operating to intercept” the retaliatory strike which was launched from Yemen. The launch comes after an Israeli strike on Hamas members as they met in Doha to discuss a peace deal proposed by Donald Trump aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.

Most of the main peace talks over Gaza have taken places in Doha, where the Hamas leadership have previously felt safe to negotiate and engage in diplomacy. Qatar issued a furious statement against Israel following the stike branding it a “criminal attack.

Blasts rocked Doha as plumes of smoke blackened the air above the city as at least five explosions were heard. However Hamas has claimed its leadership team survived the attack.

Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the strike on Doha showed that “terrorists do not and will not have immunity” anywhere in the world. He addded that the attack was the “right decisionm” saying the Israeli military and counterintelligence services had made a “perfect execution”.
