The ITV series may focus on a grisly murder but it also puts some stunning UK places in the spotlight and on viewers’ must visit lists

As we fast approach the dramatic climax of ITV’s Unforgotten, many viewers will be trying to suss the murderer of detectives James and Khan’s latest cold case while looking back on the stunning locations they have spotted on the series.

Cast leads Sinead Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar are back – this time supported by cast members including Victoria Hamilton, MyAnna Buring and Ahmad Sakhi.

The plot centres around the cold case murder of Gerry Cooper – whose dismembered remains were discovered in a marsh.

Unforgotten returned to our TV screen for sixth run earlier this year – and also returned to the picturereque county of Kent for filming.

One of its previous settings was in Rochester. Known for its rich history and culture. The Kent town featured in the 2021 series of the show and famously was also where novelist Charles Dickens based many of his novels.

Other Kent locations to feature in this latest series include Deal. According to the Kent Film Office, filming took place at private residences in the coastal town which is situated in the far east of the county. Scenes were also filmed alongside the beach and Deal Pier – involving the character of Marty Baines played by Maximilian Fairley.

The 1,026 ft pier was built in 1954 and was officially opened by The Duke of Edinburgh in November 1957.

Deal Pier is popular fishing spot and has a restaurant at the end with views of the Kent coastline.

Another character – murder victim Gerry Cooper featured in flashback episodes in The Port Arms pub in Deal.

St George’s Church in Deal is also one of the series locations for popular scenes.

Other beach shots came courtesy of Kingsdown Leas. Situated on a clifftop near the village of Kingsdown, it boasts stunning coastal views of the English Channel and with a quaint village feel. As well as being one of the most desirable locations to live in Kent, it is also the most expensive.

Most homes on sale here have a £1 million pound plus price tag.

The cast did venture away from Kent for some scenes. Solva in Pembrokeshire stood in for Ireland in the latest series.

The village which also goes by its Welsh name Solfach has been described by some visitors as “enchanting” and “charming” so it’s no wonder producers chose to film here.

It’s a tiny but bustling village with plenty of restaurants, cafes pub as well as delis, art galleries and gift shops.

Pembrokeshire was called “Little England beyond Wales” because of the large number of English and Flemish settlers who settled there in the Middle Ages.

Unforgotten season six finale is broadcast tonight on ITV1 at 9pm
