‘It’s absolutely amazing and so easy to use’

Keeping floors clean during the colder, wetter weather often feels like a never-ending task. Steam mops can be serious time-savers, sanitizing germs and lifting grime in one go, using nothing more than water.

Shark’s Automatic Steam Mop is one option for the job, available from Amazon for £119.99 – a 25% saving from the usual price of £159.99. The brand says it’s suitable for all sealed hard floors, making light work of dirt and bacteria around the home.

The mop features three steam modes: normal for everyday use, light for quick clean-ups, and deep for tougher stains. What’s more, Shark claims its latest mop delivers ‘up to 2x better stuck-on stain removal’ than the previous version.

With a lengthy 8m power cord attached, the Shark steam mop also has user-friendly features like a removable water tank and LED headlights that illuminate dirt. It comes with four machine-washable dirt grip pads, the brand says.

Other steam mops on the market include the 5-in-1 steam mop and handheld steam cleaner for £130 at Argos. Its foldable handle takes up less space for storage, and it comes with a smart steam control mode for one-touch cleaning.

Those with bigger budgets might consider the Vax Steam Fresh Total Home steam mop, available from Currys for £159. It provides 15 minutes of steam on a single tank, and can also be converted into a detachable handheld unit for cleaning hard-to-reach spots.

With an average 4.6 out of five-star rating and more than 500 reviews, buyers are very happy with the Shark steam mop. One customer gave high praise, saying: “I absolutely hate mopping floors, the whole routine of getting the mop wet, wringing it out, cleaning, and repeating. Since getting this thing, I’ve cleaned my floors three times in a single week! It’s absolutely amazing and so easy to use!”

They added: “I’m using it on laminate floor and no issues so far. Corners can be hard to reach simply due to the design of the pads, so you have to follow those up by hand.”

A second customer commented: “Ordered yesterday for use on a new kitchen floor. It’s perfect. Decent weight to it, easy to use and fab results. Steam means it’s instantly dry and there’s no water residue on tiles. Would highly recommend.” Another simply added: “Great product, easy, quick to set up and works!”

Some buyers had some issues. As part of a longer review, one mentioned a minor drawback: “My only downside with the mop is the circular shape of the Dirt Grip pad. While it does a great job on flat surfaces, it struggles to clean corners and edges effectively. I found myself needing to go back with a cloth to reach those tricky spots, which was a bit inconvenient.”

This was echoed by another reviewer. They said: “Good for a final polish, but you still need to get on hands and knees for corners and edges.”
