Jamal Musiala has signed a new deal with Bayern Munich which includes a mammoth release clause as Chelsea are left to digest his departure, which landed them less than £200k

Jamal Musiala has put pen to paper on a new deal at Bayern Munich as the former Chelsea youngster continues to forge himself out as a generational talent.

The German playmaker, who was also eligible for England, has gone from strength to strength in recent years and had a number of Europe’s top clubs keeping tabs on his situation. Manchester City were linked with a move but Musiala has now decided to stay in Bavaria.

Musiala’s new deal is understood to include an incredible £145million release clause, as per Sky Sports. It means any suitor who wants the Bayern star would have to make him the third most expensive player of all time.

It is a sizeable bump on the £170,000 Chelsea claimed when Musiala left for Bayern in July 2019. The Blues will pocket a 20 percent sell-on clause if Musiala does ever move on, but that is little solace given the player’s value now.

Chelsea have, for years, allowed their young players to move on, some even before making appearances in the first-team. In the past they’ve spent big to bring them back, but Musiala is a player they let slip away and can no longer prise back.

Musiala’s new five-deal will see him earn more than £20m per season as his value to the German giants is underlined. The former Chelsea man, who played for England throughout the age grades, has previously confessed that the impacts of Brexit were a major factor in him swapping the Premier League for the Bundesliga.

He said: “When I was 16, I was just finishing up my GCSEs, and there was a lot of uncertainty in our family. Not about football, but about life. Brexit was about to take effect in the UK, and my mum was worried about how it could affect her career as an expat working in London. We couldn’t really get clear answers. It was stressful.

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl was thrilled to retain the services of the 21-year-old, knowing full well that some of their rivals were circling. He said: “Top clubs all over the world are looking for players who can make a difference, and Jamal Musiala stands out once again. He shapes FC Bayern’s present, will also shape the future, and is the face of our new generation.

“We have been able to convince one of the most sought-after players in the world to stay with FC Bayern for the long term. With players like these, we are sending a strong signal to everyone that FC Bayern can be reckoned with in the future.”
