Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s strange pizza contains sausage, olive oil, red onion, pine nuts, dried tomato pesto and what he dubbed ‘the secret ingredient’ – grapes

Jamie Oliver’s very bizarre ingredient on pizza has been branded a “game changer” after the chef used grapes as a topping.

The celebrity chef was mocked when he initially suggested the idea on an episode of his YouTube show “Keep Cooking Family Favourites.” His pizza had sausage, olive oil, red onion, pine nuts, dried tomato pesto and what he dubbed “the secret ingredient” — grapes.

“Just a handful is all you need,” he says. “Once you try it, the sweetness, the saltiness, the whole kind of thing, is beautiful,” Oliver says. He also suggests adding rosemary, as he said that rosemary and grapes “are a match made in heaven.” He added some mozzarella before cooking. “That combination is a game changer,” he says about the rather strange dish.

Despite the chef calling the recipe a “game changer”, social media users weren”t in agreement. “The only grapes that should go with pizza are in red wine,” one person wrote. “To the ‘Nah’ crowd… you never enjoyed a platter with cheese, baguette, and… grapes?” another said. “Lose your key to the City of Napoli with that. Right up there with pineapple,” a person concluded.

It comes as celebrity TV chef Nigella Lawson provoked outrage after sharing a recipe for a ‘crustless pizza’, which she dubbed her “Recipe of the day.” “As I write in the recipe intro, I wouldn’t want to go bandying around the name of this recipe in Naples, but this is what I call it,” she captioned the now-viral post. “If it helps, think of it as a cheese toastie, only without the bread! I made this so often when my children were young.” The recipe consists of a dough-like batter mixed with cheese that is cooked in a circular pan to prevent any crust from forming. She then tops the bread with cheese and chorizo, and recommends serving alongside a ‘green or tomato salad’.

Italians were less enthused about the pizza – arguing it looked more like an ‘omelette’ than their famed food. “I’ll call it a cheese toastie,” fumed one man named Luigi. “You like to provoke the Italians.” Another user scathed: “This, and your spaghetti and Marmite were my ex’s favourite recipes of yours. She’s not allowed to cross the Italian border,” while a third added: “But I love the crusts.”

However, there were some users who rushed to the comments section to praise the pizza, with many describing it as ‘fantastic’ and ‘lovely’. “Yummy, yummy, delicious,” one impressed user raved. Another commented: “I think I’ve made this more than any other recipe in my life.” A third added: “Looks tasty sista,” while a fourth vowed to try out the recipe for themselves.
