Jeremy Clarkson underwent a heart procedure earlier this month after suffering a “sudden deterioration” in his wellbeing and is now making changes to his lifestyle

Jeremy Clarkson has candidly opened up about his recent health scare, revealing that he underwent a heart procedure following a “sudden deterioration” in his wellbeing.

The 64-year-old Grand Tour presenter experienced difficulty climbing stairs after a swim while on holiday, and his condition didn’t improve upon returning to the UK.

Jeremy Clarkson shared with the Sunday Times that doctors told him he was just “days away” from potentially becoming very ill, prompting him to quip: “Crikey, that was close.”

Now, the Diddly Squat Farm owner is taking steps to overhaul his lifestyle to prevent any further health issues.

With a sense of humour intact, Clarkson mused about discovering the taste of water and making celery more palatable. But what other lifestyle adjustments will he be implementing?

TikTok’s Dr Sood might have some answers, as he recently outlined three key practices for maintaining heart health.

“Here are three tips to improve your cardiovascular health,” the doctor advised. One crucial aspect is adhering to a heart-healthy diet. Dr Sood emphasised the importance of consuming a balanced diet filled with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to support cardiac function.

He listed white fish, beans, peas, lentils, white poultry meats like chicken and turkey, select cuts of lean beef, and low-fat dairy options such as cottage cheese or plain Greek yoghurt as good protein sources. Whole grains can include staples like wheat, rye, barley, oats, and rice.

“This will make sure you get adequate nutrients and fibre,” Dr Sood noted. “Also, opt for healthy fats like avocados and olive oil, while avoiding too much trans fat and saturated fat.”

The health expert also advised cutting back on sodium by “limiting processed food” and using “spices to enhance flavour” rather than salt.

Emphasise the importance of regular physical activity

Dr Sood highlighted the significance of incorporating “both strength training and aerobic exercise” into your fitness regime. He described aerobic exercises as rhythmic activities that utilise the body’s large muscle groups, suggesting walking, running, cycling, and swimming as effective options.

For boosting muscular strength, he mentioned the option of lifting weights or leveraging your own body weight. “It is recommended to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of high intensity, exercise per week,” Dr Sood elaborated.

Prioritise stress management

Managing your stress levels is critical, says Dr Sood, which can involve mindfulness practices such as yoga, meditation, nature walks, and ensuring you get plenty of sleep targeting around seven to nine hours each night.

Viewers were swift to react to Dr Sood’s advice, with one person commenting on his video: “Gotta eat healthy even at a young age.” Another concurred, saying: “Great info.”

To further support heart wellbeing, Dr Sood suggests quitting smoking and moderating your alcohol consumption.
