With Valentine’s Day approaching, Jo Malone has launched a brand new rose-scented perfume that’s makes the perfect romantic present – and you can even get it engraved

If you’re starting to think ahead to what you might like to get your significant other for Valentine’s Day – or even just to treat yourself to for the occasion – then Jo Malone’s latest launch is perfect. The Taif Rose Cologne Intense, £112, is a great alternative to the traditional bouquet of roses with a scent that’ll last you long after February 14th has passed.

The new fragrance has a rich, floral and romantic scent to it that’s ideal for giving on Valentine’s Day. It’s also a limited edition release, so you’ll need to be quick if you want to get your hands on it before it’s gone forever.

Céline Roux, Global Head Of Fragrance at Jo Malone said: “Taif Rose is different to all our other rose scents because it takes you to a different place: a place high in the mountains, where pink roses perfume the air to create a scent that’s majestic and completely unmistakable.”

The Taif Rose Cologne Intense has top notes of rose infusion reminiscent of Arabian rose water, with added heart notes of Taif rose blooms which brings a moreish quality to the fragrance. Finally, to balance the floral scent, the base note is a rich toasted coffee, which adds depth and sensuality to it.

If you’re wondering what exactly a Taif rose is, it’s a species of rose which grows in the mountainous city of Taif in Saudi Arabia. The Taif rose is known for its pink-red colour and particularly intense fragrance, making it perfect for giving the Taif Rose Cologne that unique, powerful rose scent.

The Taif Rose Cologne bottle is exclusively available in a 50ml size, and you can even get the purple bottle engraved with a name or message, making it extra special. Despite only recently being launched, eager Jo Malone fans have already snapped up the perfume and have left it some glowing reviews.

One wrote: “I personally love this scent but it is not a traditional rose. Traditional sweet rose scent lovers, maybe this is not for you. I love Myrrh, Tonka, frankincense base notes with my florals. If you do too, you have to have it!!”

Another added: “Oh wow what a lovely perfume. I smelt in the shop and thought this was a perfume that smelt completely different to what I am used to. Love Jo Malone perfumes and this limited edition one is excellent. Thank you for making my day with a new perfume, I would not have considered had I not tried.”

With a third chiming in: “This was a blind buy for me, but a very happy one. As described, it starts off as a very sweet jammy rose, but is balanced with a smoky undertone that gives it a sophisticated note. I own several Jo Malone Rose fragrances, but this is up there as one of my favorites.”

However, it seems the scent isn’t for everyone with one reviewer writing: “I was so excited to receive this product as I love the Rose however, this smells absolutely nothing like Rose. It is a very masculine scent mixed with a very sickly sweet smell. I ordered this online and Was sold by the fact that I could return if I didn’t like however, it’s really unfortunate because as a client need to pay for the return if you don’t like it. I absolutely love my other Jo Malone fragrance, however, would not buy a new product online again I would suggest using caution if you haven’t smelt this fragrance before not to buy it prior to smelling it.”

Another perfume which combines rose and with smokey notes is Tom Ford Cafe Rose, a unisex fragrance inspired by warm spices with hints of fresh Turkish rose and black pepper. You can pick up a 50ml bottle for £108, with the scent having additional notes of ylang-ylang, coriander, sandalwood and frankincense.

A similar scent at a fraction of the price is Miller Harris’ Rose en Noir, which is now on sale for £50 down from £100. It combines Turkish rose with tobacco, coriander, black pepper and patchouli for a unisex heady, floral fragrance.

If a softer, sweeter rose scent is more your thing, Penhaligon’s Elisabethan Rose, £85, is a great choice. It combines rose, hazelnut leaf and vetiver into a light, floral and romantic scent that’s gotten rave reviews from shoppers.
