Joel Dommett’s wife Hannah Cooper has shared her thoughts on the Masked Singer presenter competing on BBC dance contest Strictly Come Dancing sometime in the future

Joel Dommett’s wife Hannah Cooper has shared that she has introduced a “rule” to their relationship over the prospect of him signing up for Strictly Come Dancing.

The model, 35, has been in a relationship with presenter Joel, 39, for eight years. The couple, who are celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary later this year, have been supportive of each other amid their respective careers.

Hannah however has revealed that she isn’t keen on the idea of her husband taking part in Strictly. She shared in an interview that she has encouraged Joel against doing the BBC show, in light of its reputation for having a “curse”.

The supposed ‘Strictly curse’ relates to individuals taking part in the dance contest seemingly developing romances with fellow participants, despite being in relationships with other people. It’s attracted much attention over the years and a number of couples are said to have split during or after one of them has competed on the long-running show.

Hannah told the Sun: “I have a rule with Joel that I’d rather, if there was a choice, he didn’t do Strictly. I hate to say it, but the Strictly curse and all that stuff. And it makes me sound awful because Joel says ‘don’t you trust me?'”

She teased that the I’m a Celebrity runner-up can practise the Tango, for example, at home with her instead. It’s been suggested that the “curse” isn’t the only reason behind her approach, with her adding that Joel is “awful” at dancing.

The next series of Strictly is set to launch later this year and the celebrity contestants have yet to be unveiled. There’s however various names rumoured for the line-up already ahead of the news, though Joel isn’t among them.

Joel and his partner Hannah are understood to have begun their relationship in 2016 following an exchange on social media. The couple got engaged the following year and then went on to tie the knot in a wedding ceremony in 2019.

It was announced last year that they were expecting a baby together. The pair later welcomed their son Wilde, now nine months old, in September last year, with them having announced his arrival to fans on Instagram at the time.

Although there’s no suggestion that Joel will be taking part in Strictly later this year, he has been announced as the host of the National Television Awards again. He will host this year’s awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the O2 London in September. It will mark his fourth stint as the host of the annual TV awards ceremony. Joel first presented the event in 2021 and returned the following two years to host again.
