Tyson Fury’s dad John has shown off the cut on his forehead after shamefully headbutting one of Oleksandr Usyk’s friends.
Tempers boiled over at the start of fight week for Fury and Usyk’s undisputed heavyweight world title fight this Saturday in Saudi Arabia. John confronted a member Usyk’s entourage and went face-to-face with him before turning his attention to Stanislav Stepchuk and headbutting him.
John did more damage to himself than to Stepchuk as his face was left covered in blood, whilst Stepchuk had a small graze above his eye. Two days on from the incident, John sported a nasty gash on his forehead whilst speaking to commentators as his son Tyson took to the ring for his open workout.
Stepchuk admitted he was taken back by John’s actions and the 59-year-old has since apologised for his disgraceful conduct. “I was just supporting my team and shouting Usyk. “I didn’t touch him [John], he just exposed his mind and went crazy,” Stepchuk told Seconds Out. “If he gets mad only from shouting Usyk’s name, what will happen in the ring?”
Fury’s instant reaction to his dad being covered in blood was caught on camera as he called him a “silly c***.” The 59-year-old said he only confronted Usyk’s team because he felt they were disrespecting his son. “I was sat there minding my own business and all I heard was ‘Usyk, Usyk, Usyk’ so I had to stand up for my son,” John told iFL TV.
“My son is the best in the world and I want people to respect him and give him the credit he deserves. When I was in amongst them, all I could hear was badness. Some little idiot come forward in my space, he got what he got and that was the end of it. If one of my team was to insult Usyk, they’d be snapped. Leave the fighting men to fight at the end of the day.”
