A woman has died after being found injured in a John Lewis car park in Leicester’s city centre.
Police were called to the area this morning at 9am to respond to an “incident” which left a woman suffering injuries. The car park is now closed with a further closure in place across the pedestrian footbridge opposite the Highcross.
Leicestershire Police said East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, adding the woman “was taken to hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.” The force said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner. Identification is a matter for the coroner.”
A spokesperson for Highcross Leicester said the car park would remain closed until further notice. They said: “Leicestershire emergency services were called to the centre this morning in response to an incident.
“As a result, our multi-storey car park is closed until further notice. In the meantime, the centre itself remains open and shoppers can still park in our rooftop car park, accessed via Vaughan Way. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope to update shoppers once the car park has reopened.”
A white tent has been erected by emergency services inside the car park foyer on the ground floor, as well as blue screens.
No additional details on how the woman suffered her injuries have been released.
