Arsenal dropped 13 points behind Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title but Gunners midfielder Jorginho is refusing to give up on their pursuit of the runaway leaders

Jorginho says Arsenal will ‘not give up’ in their pursuit of Liverpool.

The Gunners’ midfielder counted a point from a trip to the City Ground as one gained – despite Mikel Arteta ’s men falling further behind in the title race. The Reds’ victory over Newcastle took their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 13 points.

But Jorginho said that his team-mates are not waving the white flag quite just yet. Asked about the title, he said: “You can answer that question yourself – we are going to keep going, for sure. We have to keep going.

“This is no time to give up. We have to believe and keep pushing. We’re focused. We know how hard we are working. We’re pushing the same way. We are still believing. Everyone believes. We’re together. We’re going to keep going.”

While there has been a sense of deflation around the North Londoners, the Italian international saw the cup as half-full rather than half-empty.

He added: “Look, we need to look at the positives. Coming here, this is a tough place this season. They are doing really well. The way we controlled their strengths – it was good. We went for the win, we tried, we pushed a lot. The willingness of the boys was there. But we didn’t score, we didn’t win.

“Maybe we need a bit of luck. Maybe more in the final third, we are struggling to find and create a bit more, to have some shots. The goal will come. The key is sticking together, being positive. That everyone steps up together. The points will come again.”

Arteta has refused to admit defeat in the title race despite Liverpool’s lead growing by five points in less than a week. Despite their stalemate at Nottingham Forest the Spaniard has maintained that he will retain hope whilst it is mathematically possible.

He said: “This team always gives you reasons to believe, to keep going. The frustration comes from knowing that when you control a game like this, you have to win it. But in this league, the margins are so small, and unfortunately, we didn’t find a way to score.”
