Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was left frustrated with his sending off against Manchester United after his side were denied a penalty in the Europa League on Thursday evening

Jose Mourinho has issued a come-and-get-me plea to the Premier League’s bottom-half as he bids to escape European football.

In typical Mourinho fashion, the Fenerbahce boss could not help but speak in jest in reaction to being sent off against his former club Manchester United. The ex-Chelsea manager was given his marching orders in Istanbul after being left frustrated when his side were not awarded a penalty.

Mourinho was left steaming when referee Clement Turpin waved away after former Blackpool and QPR star Bright Osayi-Samuel went down under a challenge from Manuel Ugarte. The 61-year-old engaged in a furious discussion with fourth official Jeremy Stinat and ultimately Turpin arrived to brandish a red card for foul and abusive language.

As a result, Mourinho is already planning his escape from European football. Current Premier League strugglers dreaming of a new manager may have to put their plans on pause however, the Portuguese coach plans to see out his contract which runs until 2026 first.

Mourinho said following the game: “The best thing I can do when I leave Fenerbahce is go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England, who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go. I don’t want to speak any more about it. If I appeal the red card I will get six months.

“I thought my team was fantastic against a team that is much better than anything we will face in Turkey. The two saves by Andre Onana from En-Nesyri in the first half were decisive in the result.”

While Mourhino appears reluctant to appeal the decision to send him to the stands, the outspoken manager was unafraid to share his view on the official that sent him there. In a review laced in sarcasm, the veteran coach labelled Turpin as one of the best referees in world football.

“He [Turpin] told me something incredible, he said at the same time he could see the action in the box and my behaviour on the touchline,” Mourinho explained.

“I congratulate him because he’s absolutely incredible, he has peripheral vision, at 100 miles per hour he had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on my behaviour, that’s why he’s one of the best in the world. I watched the incident [again], I have nothing to say.”
